NEWS
--A St. Cloud woman who is accused of killing her father and fleeing to Kentucky has been found incompetent to stand trial. 39-year old Lisa M. Kearney has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of Jeffrey Schilling. He was found dead January 4th inside the home he shared with Kearney in the 300 block of 21st Avenue North. A judge previously ordered Kearney to undergo a mental competency examination. That examination led to her being committed as mentally ill. That means that the criminal case against her will be on hold until she is restored to competency. Kearney has been jailed since her arrest.

--A Stearns County judge has denied a motion from an Albany man who sought to dismiss an indictment that accuses him of killing his infant son. 33-year old Robert John Kaiser is charged with first- and second-degree murder. He has been jailed since his arrest September 3rd, 2014 the day his son, William John Polries-Kaiser, died. A grand jury in October 2014 indicted Kaiser. His trial is set for October 3rd.

--A man is jailed for investigation of second-degree assault, and police believe he stabbed another man in July in Waite Park. 22-year old Khadar Abdi Isse was arrested Monday. Police believe robbery might have been the motive when another man was stabbed July 24th in the 800 block of Seventh Street South. Officers were unable to identify a suspect initially. The victim suffered a severe cut to his arm but survived and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment. Investigators eventually identified Isse as the suspect. Isse is in Stearns County Jail, where he awaits his first court appearance.

--Funeral arrangements have been set for General John William Vessey Jr. who passed away August 18th at the age of 94. Vessey, a Minnesota native, enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard as a private in 1939 and served as the tenth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from June 18th, 1982 to September 30th, 1985. A religious service will take place today at 1:00pm at the Fort Snelling Chapel where he married his wife, Avis, in 1945. Following the religious service at 2:30pm, a "Celebration of Life and Service" will take place at the Boy Scout Base Camp near the Fort Snelling Chapel. On Thursday, at noon, a religious service will take place at the Camp Ripley Chapel which will include a horse-drawn caisson procession and a Blackhawk flyover. All services are open to the public but proper identification will be needed to enter the base facilities. Following the service at the Camp Ripley Chapel, a private interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Thursday in honor and remembrance of General Vessey, Jr.

--Authorities are holding two people in the dragging death of a Montrose teenager over the weekend. Authorities in Wright County got a report of an unconscious male lying in a road in Montrose early Sunday. The victim, 18-year-old Justin Harvey, approached a pickup truck on the road and got into a confrontation with a passenger seated in the vehicle. The pickup accelerated during the confrontation, dragging Harvey a short distance. Deputies and emergency workers treated Harvey at the scene. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he died. Two adults were arrested and booked into jail, pending charges.

--The Brainerd Public Schools 2016 employee Above and Beyond Awards went to Margaret Knebel, Brian Bordwell and Steve Lendobeja. Recipients of this award serve as inspirations not only to the school district community but also to the broader community because they are role models who strive to have a positive impact every day with our young people. Margaret Knebel is an Occupational Therapist with the Paul Bunyan Educational Cooperative. Brian Bordwell is an Industrial Arts teacher at Brainerd High School. Steve Lendobeja is a Technician in the Technology department. The Above and Beyond Awards annually recognize employees who demonstrate a positive attitude that inspires others and consistently go above and beyond what is expected so that students can be successful. All school district employees are eligible for this award and anyone can nominate. Nominations are gathered throughout the year and selections are made in May of each year.

--Highway 23 near Foley was closed to traffic Monday night shortly around 10:10pm due to rising waters covering the road. Authorities used resources in this and other areas to combat the high waters. Highway 23 was reopened a few hours later around 1:30am Tuesday. A couple of homes in the Foley area encountered some water in their basements. No damage estimates are available at this time.

--Little Falls Community Middle School Open House is tonight from 6:30-8pm. All 6th graders, new students to the Little Falls Community Middle School and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend.

--The Little Falls Kiwanis Trivia Night is October 13th at the Great River Arts Center at 7pm. Proceeds go to Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest. Set up a team today by calling Daniel at 632-3606.

VIKINGS= Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a dislocated knee and complete tear of his ACL ligament meaning he will have surgery to repair the tear in the coming days. There was no nerve or arterial damage from the tear. The injury means at least a year or more of recovery meaning Bridgewater will not play at all in the upcoming NFL season for the Vikings. The Vikings final preseason game is tomorrow night against the LA Rams and they open the season against Tennessee September 11th now with Shaun Hill as the likely starting quarterback unless a trade of sorts is made before.
TWINS= Brian Dozier led off the game with a homerun but the offense went cold after a few innings, Cleveland wins 5-4 Tuesday. Twins have lost 11 straight and finish their series with Cleveland tonight, pregame at 5:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
CLASS C= Sobieski vs. Prior Lake Saturday 11am followed by Nisswa vs. Bemidji at 1:30pm Saturday from the Class C State Tournament will be heard on AM960 KLTF. Lastrup vs. Hadley will be Saturday night at 7:30pm and heard on FM94 KFML. Win on Saturday they could play 2 Sunday, and the championship is on Monday at 3pm.
