NEWS
–The Morrison County Sheriff‘s Office reported a one vehicle rollover accident with injuries on 210th Avenue, ¼ mile north of Nature Road near Royalton. Around 3:25pm Monday, a vehicle driven by 16-year old Derick Hall of Pierz was traveling south on 210th Avenue when it left the roadway hitting several approaches and a power pole. Hall was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Royalton Fire Department and first responders.

–The Minnesota Court of Appeals confirmed Monday that the jury decision in a lawsuit over stray voltage that awarded Pine River dairy farmers $6.3 million in damages was the correct ruling and turned down the appeal from Crow Wing Power. The appeal was filed for the Brainerd electrical cooperative Crow Wing Power after they were found negligent in October, 2014 in its response to stray voltage concerns raised by Randy and Peggy Norman of Pine River.

–Brainerd police responded to a robbery at the Holiday Station located on Mill Avenue Monday night. The robbery occurred shortly after 7:30pm and the man left with money and the police swept the area around the station but found no indications of the robber. The robber was seen on surveillance video which is posted on the Brainerd Police Department website of a while male, scruffy beard, 5-10 with age unknown. No weapons were involved according to police and there were no injuries.

–Law enforcement is advising the public to stay away from an injured wolf that has been spotted in the Brainerd area. Police are not tracking the wolf, but the DNR has been advised that there is an injured wolf in the area.

–Fifteen people had to be taken to the hospital Saturday night after inhaling fumes from cleaning solutions at a Foley company. The Foley Fire Chief said around 10:00pm they arrived at PouchTec Industries and heard that a mix of sanitizer and a diluted cleaning material gave off a strong smell that made the employees ill. Firefighters had to ventilate the business. All the employees were released from the hospital by Sunday night and business was only interrupted for a short time on Saturday night while the building was ventilated.

–Emergency crews were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision in north St. Cloud that happened around 12:30pm Monday. An 87-year-old St. Cloud man suffered substantial injuries in a collision with another vehicle after he ran a red light, collided with another vehicle causing his vehicle to turn onto its side. Hubert Dombrovski was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment. The other driver 25-year-old Dennis Cook of Avon had no apparent injuries. Twelfth Street North was closed briefly for about two blocks west of 32nd Avenue as they responded to the two-vehicle collision.

–A mobile home was destroyed Sunday by fire in Rice. Firefighters arrived around 5:00pm and was told by the home owner that a wood stove was being lit with a flammable liquid and it caught fire. The owner James Lent was not injured. Foley assisted Rice in the fire.

–Three vehicles crashed Tuesday morning in northern Stearns County as a light dusting of snow and some freezing drizzle fell overnight. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said three weather-related crashes caused property damage but no injuries on Tuesday morning occuring between Holdingford and Freeport.

–Pierz Healy High School will have parent-teacher conferences today from 3:30-7:30pm at the MAC for students grades 7-12.

–A Stearns County judge Tuesday ordered another mental competency examination for a man accused of killing his mother more than two years ago in St. Cloud. 54-year-old Dean Friese is accused of stabbing his mother to death in September 2013. Previous court-ordered competency exams have yielded different results as to whether Friese is competent to stand trial on charges of first-degree murder. Stearns County District Court Judge Frank Kundrat at a hearing Tuesday ordered another exam for Friese and set a trial date for May. Kundrat recently denied a motion to dismiss a first-degree murder indictment against Friese and denied motions to suppress certain evidence gathered during the investigation of Lois Arlene Omeara’s death.

–A man accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal collision in August has agreed to be sentenced to seven years in prison. Tom Souvannaphong of St. Cloud entered an Alford plea last Thursday to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide. That means he does not admit guilt, but agrees he would likely be convicted and accepts the terms of a plea agreement. The agreement includes seven years in prison for Souvannaphong. Court documents say Souvannaphong was speeding on Second Street North in Sauk Rapids late at night on August 8th, 2015 when he ran a red light and broadsided a vehicle on Benton Drive. Two people from Hibbing, 51-year-old Kevin Davey and 45-year-old Kathy Davey, were killed in the collision. Court documents say Souvannaphong had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.101 percent at the time of the collision.

–Stearns County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating who shot and injured a male yellow lab that was found in the rural Avon with what is believed to be a pellet gun. Around 8:55am on Monday a resident who lives near Avon reported that he found an injured male yellow Labrador lying under a tree. A deputy brought the dog to a veterinarian who found that the dog had been shot four times in the face and two times in the hind quarters. The veterinarian believes the shots were from a pellet gun. Several of the shots penetrated the dog’s muzzle and broke the dog’s jaw. The dog was treated and is now being housed by Stearns County. Sheriff’s investigators are attempting to locate the owner of the dog and identify the person(s) responsible for these injuries. Call authorities with information.

–Assistant Majority Leader and District 9B Representative Ron Kresha of Little Falls has announced that he will seek reelection for a 3rd term in the state house this November. District 9B represents most of Morrison and 5 townships in Todd County.
