NEWS
–Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larson is the guest this morning on Community Events at 8:45am on KLTF. This week the sheriff’s office sent out information on a scam being done with someone stating they are from the IRS demanding payment of past due taxes and that law enfrocement will get involved if not paid. This is a scam. If you have not received any information in the mail about unpaid revenue there should be no reason that the IRS would call you as they mail out information first. Most information needed by the IRS they already have. If you are contacted and asked for personal information  please NEVER give that information over the phone or by email if you did not make first contact with that person. If you have questions on suspicious activty or scams do not hesitate to call 632-9233.

–Authorities have identified a woman found dead Sunday on the ice of the Mississippi River as 21-year-old Hannah Pauline Udvig of St. Cloud. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said preliminary investigation leads deputies to believe Udvig fell or jumped from the bridge, and preliminary results of an autopsy show she died from injuries consistent with a fall. A person walking on the Granite City Crossing Bridge called police to report a body on the ice around 12:20pm Sunday. During the investigation of Udvig’s death, a man’s body was found on the shore of the river. St. Cloud Police are investigating that death, and said the man appears to have been dead for a substantial amount of time. Police said Tuesday they did not know when they would be able to release the identity of the dead man. Authorities said Monday the two deaths do not appear to be related. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office wants to speak with anyone who was on or near the Granite City Crossing Bridge around 1:00am on Sunday. Members of the public can call 320-251-4240 and ask to speak with an investigator.

–Four Ojibwe tribe members pleaded not guilty Monday in Crow Wing County to charges of gathering wild rice and gillnetting without permits during a treaty rights protest last summer. The charges came from separate incidents in August 2015 by a group of tribe members who gathered on Hole in the Day Lake near Nisswa to harvest wild rice and strenghten rights under a 1855 treaty. Treaty will be a major question when the trial begins. Monday was the just the first step in the case against Todd Thompson, James Northrup, Morningstar Shabaiash and Harvey Goodsky who all plead not guilty on Monday.

–A Waite Park man is facing charges after law enforcement discovered more than 12 pounds of methamphetamine and a firearm in his home. The court record said Baldemar Maldonado-Barragan is facing two charges of first-degree drug possession while possessing a firearm. According to the criminal complaint, investigators with the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force executed a search warrant on Wednesday at a residence at 15th Avenue North, where they believe Maldonado-Barragan was living. During the search investigators found multiple packages of methamphetamine, a large amount of money and a handgun. The methamphetamine was found in multiple locations in various sized packages weighing a total of 5,700 grams, or about 12½ pounds. Maldonado-Barragan was located on Thursday in Willmar and placed under arrest. During a search investigators found $11,000 and several suitcases that indicated he was attempting to flee. Maldonado-Barragan is currently in the Stearns County Jail being held on a $500,000 bond.

–Staples-Motley School District will vote later this month whether it will change school assignments within the district. The proposal is that in 2016-17 school year that all Kindergarten through third graders will attend Staples Elementary, all fourth through seventh graders attend Motley Middle School and 8th through 12th grade would all attend Staples Motley High School. Preschool options would remain the same at their current locations. The school board is set to bring the decision to a vote in their next school board meeting.

–A 24-year-old woman was injured Saturday around 2pm in Crow Wing County when she crashed on Thiesse Road south of Brainerd. Sunny Deyhle was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. Three others inside the vehicle were not injured in the accident.

–The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting SWAT training today in the city of Cold Spring. This training is not real and there should be no reason for the public to be alarmed. This training will occur only in the afternoon at several houses in the city of Cold Spring. This training will involve the use of training materials which may emit a short loud booming sound.

–Crow Wing County reported Monday around 7:45pm their sheriff’s office received a call of a vehicle going through the ice in the channel of Lower Hay Lake and Upper Whitefish Lake in about 2 feet of water. The driver, 25-year Cory Anderson of Pequot Lakes, reported that he was driving on the lake when the vehicle broke through the ice in the channel. He and his passenger, 25-year Jacob Nelson of Pequot Lakes, were able to exit the vehicle and walk to the shore to a residence where they called 911. No one was injured in the incident. Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reminds residents to be cautious when traveling on area lakes especially from the recent warm temperatures last weekend.

The Carolina Panthers vs. The Denver Broncos as Cam Newton for the Panthers will battle Peyton Manning who many feel is playing his last NFL game will battle for the NFL’s biggets prize. You can hear all the action live Sunday kickoff 5:30pm, pregame at 1pm on AM960 KLTF.
