NEWS --An 83-year-old man from Plymouth was killed yesterday just after 4:00pm on Highway 10 in Royalton. Robert Kysar was pulling out of the Tesaro gas station when he was struck broadside by an on coming semi-tractor and trailer driven by 71-year old Lewis Olson of Baxter. Kysar was dead at the scene. His passenger, 96-year old Gayle Steinmetz was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for her injuries. The semi driver was not hurt. The accident closed the highway as the semi was hauling beer that spilled out on the roadway causing traffic to be backed up for miles and rerouted during the cleanup.
--At the Pierz City Council Meeting Monday night, the council approved the Public Works committee to move forward with making a purchase of playground equipment not to exceed $25,000. The legion park in the city of Pierz was vandalized and the city is looking into getting it fixed. The Pierz lions club have offered to donate $5,000 towards a playground. The city applied for two separate NJPA grants and received both amounting to a total $5,000.
--Two people were arrested Friday after investigators in Little Falls discovered an active meth lab in a vehicle. Officers from the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force assisted in the arrests of 53-year old Troy Oberton and 35-year old Donna Alger both of Little Falls. The meth lab was discovered when officers were called to a shoplifting complaint. Little Falls Police officers went to the residence at 15091 18th Street NE in Little Falls and saw drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle. Officers removed Oberton and Alger from the vehicle and searched it. They found meth cooking in a bottle inside the vehicle. Officers from the Drug Enforcement Agency in the Twin Cities cleaned up the lab and disposed of the hazardous materials. Officers arrested Oberton and Alger and booked them at the Morrison County Jail for investigation of first degree controlled substance crimes.
--A St. Cloud woman was arrested Monday and booked at Stearns County Jail on possible charges of possession of controlled substance. The arrest was part of an investigation by the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force, which had a warrant to conduct a search Monday at 304 Laudenbach Court. When officers arrived they found 25-year-old Andrea Sorbo leaving her apartment with a large plastic bin. They detained her after watching her put the bin in her car. Officers could detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car and the bin in particular. They found about 3 pounds of marijuana inside the bin. Officers conducted the search of her apartment and found $1,289 and additional evidence of marijuana possession. The task force was assisted by the St. Cloud Police Department patrol division. The task force is made up of officers from Little Falls, Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud, and deputies from Stearns, Sherburne, Todd, Morrison and Benton County sheriff offices.
--A 74-year-old man from Shafer was taken to the hospital Saturday for a crash on Highway 27 in Aitkin County. Bernard Waddick was south on 27 near McGrath when he left the road and struck a tree. He was taken to the Aitkin Hospital for treatment of injuries.
--A 31-year-old Brainerd woman was injured in Beltrami County Saturday around 5:40pm. Martha Pink was on Highway 71 when she left the roadway, crashed through a chain-link fence and into some trees. She was taken to the Bemidji hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Her 1 year old child in the vehicle was not hurt.

--Duluth Police Lieutenant and St. Louis County Commissioner Pete Stauber announced Monday that he is running for the U.S. Congress from Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District. Stauber, a Republican, is seeking the seat now held by Representative Rick Nolan (Democrat). The Republican candidate against Congressman Nolan the past two elections, Stewart Mills III, applauded the announcement from Stauber and informed the media it is too early to know if he plans on running for a third time in the District 8 election in 2018.
--At 4:30pm on Sunday 17-year old Sienna Paige Stice left her residence north of Kimball after telling her parents she was going for a walk. Sienna was last seen at approximately 5:00pm on Powder Ridge Road near Hwy. 15 appearing to be headed back home. Sienna did not return to the residence. Sienna is a white female, 5 foot 3 inches tall weighing approximately 130 pounds with hazel eyes. She has brown hair with pink highlights and was last seen wearing a royal blue “Kimball Cubs” zip-up hoodie style sweatshirt, black crop t-shirt and black leggings and black flip-flop shoes. Sienna is currently on medication for a medical condition but does not have her medication with her. --A Waite Park man was in custody and another man was hospitalized Monday night after a stabbing about 5:45pm in north St. Cloud. St. Cloud police said in a series of tweets that 52-year old Presley Browning Johns II of Waite Park was in the Stearns County Jail. The stabbing occurred in the 400 block of 33rd Avenue North. The 58-year old victim sustained lacerations to his hands and throat. Police reported the injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. There is no ongoing threat to public safety, and the investigation continues. Your son or daughter can get their ATV Safety Certification next month in Benton County.
--The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is hosting an ATV Safety Course on August 20th at the Benton County Court Facility. Students are eligible for the course if they are 11 years old or older and have completed the online portion of the training available at the MN DNR website prior to the class. The class is limited to 25 students and pre-registration is required with your child’s name, date of birth and contact information. They must also bring a copy of the signed certification of completion from the online course. Students are encouraged to bring their own ATV to the class on August 20th.

SPORTS ALL STAR= a pitcher's duel most of the night in the All Star Game last night in Miami ending in extra innings with a Robinson Cano homerun to lift the American League to a 2-1 win over the National League. Miguel Sano got the other RBI for the AL with a 5th inning single. Both Santana and Kinzler for Twins pitched in the game.
