NEWS
--A 62-year-old Crosby man was killed Monday when his vehicle vaulted over a culvert approach in Cass County. The State Patrol said that Mark Bergee was on Highway 371 south of Pine River when he left the roadway, vaulted over a culvert approach and rolled. Bergee who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the SUV and died at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

--The Lakes Area Drug Investigative Division has recently concluded a large scale, nearly 8 month long narcotic investigation. As a result of this investigation, 28 individuals were recently charged in Crow Wing County Court. Charges include: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Degree Sale of Controlled Substance. Over the past 8 months, LADID Agents conducted numerous controlled buys of narcotics which led to a total of approximately 320 grams of methamphetamine, 19 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 9 grams of heroin, and 4 firearms being purchased. LADID agents worked closely with the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office to coordinate the cases involved.

--A 27-year old man was arrested after a nearly three hour standoff Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. Police were called to the home and tried to persuade Theodore Tiede to surrender. Several gunshots were fired from the home during the standoff but no one was injured. Tiede was eventually taken into custody and faces charges of making terroristic threats, reckless discharge of a firearm and assault with a deadly weapon.

--A 27-year old Staples man was injured Monday when he drove into a sign in the median on Highway 10 near Staples. Robert Sero was traveling west on highway 10 near Staples as his vehicle went off the road and hit a sign in the center median at milepost 112 and continued westbound on highway 10. At milepost 110 his vehicle overcorrected and went into the median again rolling over and coming to rest on its roof in the east bound lanes of highway 10. Sero was taken to the hospital in Staples for non life threatening injuries. No one else was involved. Alcohol was not a factor.

--The Minnesota Department of Health announced this past weekend that it’s time to start thinking about West Nile Virus. The hot and dry weather in July and August make conditions ripe for the species of mosquito which carries the virus. If you start feeling like you have the flu, a fever, or muscle aches, check with your doctor as you may have West Nile Virus. Health officials say take the usual precautions and wear repellent when you’re outdoors and try to avoid being outside during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

--A 51-year-old Brainerd man was injured Saturday when he was pinned under his four-wheeler on Eagleview Drive in Brainerd. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office responded to the ATV crash around 12:20pm and found Tracey Monton under his four wheeler. Monton was removed from under the vehicle but refused hospitalization.

--Three people, including two children were injured Saturday in an accident near McGregor on Highway 210 in Aitkin County. The State Patrol said that 40-year old Melissa Dahlquist of St. Paul was eastbound around 6:15pm when she went off the road and rolled the vehicle. Dahlquist and her two passengers, 11-year old Austin Brown and 13-year old Grace Brown were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

--The Morrison County Fair is August 10th through the 13th this year with pig races. More details to come soon at fallsradio.com.

--A St. Cloud man charged with stabbing a girl at Walmart has been found mentally ill and is being committed to a state facility. According to the Stearns County Attorney’s Office, 30-year old Christian De Beche has been found incompetent to stand trial and will be entered into the state of Minnesota’s Restoration to Competency Program for up to six months. Criminal charges are still possible if De Beche is found competent after completing the program. The mother of the victim told police that just prior to the stabbing, De Beche was standing next to them. She testified she heard a noise and looked over to see the man appear to be choking her daughter. She then realized her daughter was stabbed as she fell to the ground. Police arrived to find the girl lying in an aisle in a pool of blood with a stab wound to her back and shoulder area and a three-inch folding knife nearby. The girl told police she doesn’t know De Beche and he didn’t make any comments prior to the attack.

--A 27-year old of Duluth was injured Tuesday morning around 4:30 on Highway 12 in Wright County. Seth Rajavuori was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in the Twin Cities for his injuries. He veered off the highway and went through a barbed wire fence.

--St. Cloud State University is holding a full-scale emergency exercise with several local response teams today. The exercise will include members of the St. Cloud Police and Fire departments, St. Cloud Hospital, Gold Cross and other emergency medical services. The vehicles will be traveling on 5th Avenue South between 9am and 1pm. During the exercise the Atwood Memorial Center will be closed with the rest of campus open. St. Cloud State University says it’s hosting the drill because it is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for its students, employees and guests.
