--According to an announcement via facebook Tuesday afternoon, the Morrison County Fair this summer has been cancelled amidst the COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions.
--A 9-year old boy was airlifted to the hospital after a boating accident in Morrison County this weekend. The incident happened around 5:30pm Sunday on Round Lake, north of Randall. Sheriff Shawn Larsen says 39-year-old Kara Sjol of Brownsdale, was driving a pontoon when she tried to throw a rope to the boy in the water but came up short. Authorities say she then backed up the pontoon and the motor struck the boy. The boy was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries.
--At 6:53am Saturday the Morrison County Sheriff's Office received a report of a one vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of 50th Avenue and 50th Street, one mile north of Upsala in Elmdale Township. 65-year old David Heisick of Upsala, was traveling north on 50th Avenue. Heisick’s vehicle went in the east ditch, hit a road approach and rolled. Heisick was transported by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries.
--A Little Falls man was hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Morrison County. The Sheriff's Office says it happened just before 2:30pm Saturday at the intersection of 90th Street and 110th Avenue, southwest of Little Falls. 40-year old Gery Pietrowksi of Sauk Rapids was going south on 100th Avenue and 29-year old Abraham Yorek of Little Falls was going east on 90th Street when they collided. Yorek was ejected from his vehicle. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries. Pietrowski was not hurt.
--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office said two people were taken to the hospital after their side-by-side ATV rolled Sunday. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office got a call at 7:12pm Sunday about an ATV accident with injuries. The crash happened at the intersection of 110th Street and 110th Avenue southwest of Little Falls. The driver, 39-year old Thomas Sowada of Little Falls was heading north on 110th Avenue when he went to make a left turn on to 110th Street and rolled. Sowada and his passenger, 37-year old Melissa Hagerty of Flensburg were taken to St. Gabriel's Hospital with unknown injuries.
--Crews will continue putting black dirt behind the curb on CSAH 52 south of Little Falls, and slope work on CSAH 21 east of Upsala. One lane will be closed with flaggers directing traffic. Maintenance Crews will be doing a culvert repair on CSAH 26 west of Royalton. Crews will be patching potholes on CSAH 21, south of Bowlus and County Road 203 north of Little Falls. Please use caution around work crews and flashing lights. As we continue to preserve and maintain Morrison County infrastructure, Public Works employees are practicing social distancing in their travels and on the various job sites.
--After all ballots were counted, Quinn Nystrom won the Minnesota DFL endorsement for the 8th Congressional District with 78% of the vote on the first ballot. The state convention was delayed this year due to COVID-19 concerns. Nystrom is a fourth generation resident of Crow Wing County. Nystrom will run against Republican Congressman Pete Stauber, who was elected in 2018.
--Pierz students will be having a Drive Tractor Day today while honoring social distances. A parade of tractors starts on County Road 39 north of the high school at noon with fire trucks leading the way, south on Highway 25, East on Park Avenue and back up to junction of Highways 25 and 27 where Father Popp will give a blessing.
--Little Falls Community Schools Superintendent Stephen Jones said the district is planning to do a Summer Food Program but they need to know if you want to participate. If you haven't returned the form that was sent with the bus-delivered meals last week, please call the school's transportation department at 632-2029 or 632-2002 this week if you are interested in receiving breakfast and lunch for your students all summer long. Even if you have been receiving meals delivered to you the past three months, we still need to hear from you if you want to participate this summer in the food program. The district is asking students and parents to return all school-owned items this week, they can do that in person at the schools or on the buses that are delivering the meals.
--The President appointed Major General Jon A. Jensen to serve as the next director of the Army National Guard at the National Guard Bureau. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the United States Senate. Major General Jensen has served as Minnesota’s Adjutant General since 2017, after having held various leadership positions within the Minnesota National Guard. Major General Jensen has served in the National Guard for 37 years. The process to select the next Adjutant General will be announced in coming days.
--Eight people have been rescued after their boat sank in Big Kandiyohi Lake in west-central Minnesota. Authorities say the driver of the 1974 Larsen speedboat was trying to bring it up to speed Sunday evening when there was a loud noise at the rear. The outboard motor tore off from the transom, and the motor and part of the boat fell into the lake. All four adults and four children were pulled to safety by others on a pontoon and were unhurt.
--A St. Cloud man was hurt in a three vehicle crash Monday afternoon. The incident happened just before 1pm along Highway 15 in Maine Prairie Township. The Minnesota State Patrol says 31-year-old Dakota Housman of St. Cloud was heading north on Highway 15, when he slowed quickly, causing a chain reaction crash. Housman was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for his injuries. No other injuries.
