–The body of a missing deer hunter has been recovered in west central Minnesota. Pope County Sheriff’s officials say a two-day search over the weekend led deputies and conservation officers to the shores of Anderson Lake in Pope County after 40-year-old Jon Donald Kloos of rural Glenwood was reported missing. On Friday searchers found a canoe in approximately ten feet of water. On Saturday Kloos’ body was located. Investigators believe he was paddling to an island on Anderson Lake when he went into the water.
An autopsy is being performed for an official cause of death.

–Authorities have identified a body found in a Douglas County swamp late last week. According to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, 63-year-old Danny Tucker of Kensington drowned. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says Tucker was reported missing Friday. Deputies checked his home and were unable to find him. Investigators were led to a slough near East Lake Mary Road where a conservation officer found the body of a man partially submerged in the water. Tucker was a known trapper. A kayak and trapping equipment was found near the body. Foul play was not suspected.

–Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton isn’t objecting to the possible placement of Syrian refugees in his state as long as they undergo rigorous screening first. Dayton released a statement Monday saying he’s been assured by the White House that any refugees from the war-torn country would be “subject to the highest level of security checks of any category of traveler to the United States.” President Barack Obama’s administration has pledged to accept about 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next 12 months. The U.S. State Department has said the refugees would be spread across the country. After the terrorist attacks in Paris, governors refuse to accept Syrian refugees. The Democratic governor’s stance is in contrast to those in several Republican-led states, where governors say they don’t want any refugees settled within their borders in the wake of last week’s terror attacks in Paris. Among them, Gov. Scott Walker said Wisconsin will not accept any new Syrian refugees because they pose a threat. Walker issued a statement Monday calling on President Barack Obama to not allow any Syrian refugees into the United States pending a full review of security and acceptance procedures. Walker does not say in his statement how Wisconsin would prevent any refugees from relocating in the state. Walker and other governors are raising concerns about accepting Syrian refugees after a Syrian passport was found near one of the Paris terrorist attackers.

–Coal and iron ore producer Cliffs Natural Resources Inc said it would temporarily halt all operations at two iron ore projects in Minnesota by December 1st, aiming to reduce costs at a time when miners are hit by weak prices and low demand. Cliffs said it expects the Northshore mine and United Taconite processing facility to be idled through the first quarter of 2016 and that inventory at both mines was adequate to meet current customer demand. The company, which has previously idled the United Taconite mine, said it will continue to operate the Hibbing Taconite mine in Minnesota and the Tilden and Empire mines in Michigan. The company expects that idling the two operations will cost it $9 million per month.
