NEWS
--The body of a man discovered near a Foley park Monday evening has been sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. A citizen alerted law enforcement to what they believed was a body near Lion's Park in Foley at about 6:00pm Monday. The man was identified Tuesday as 35-year old Jason Beaufeaux of Foley. Evidence at the scene indicated the body of Beaufeaux had been deceased for several days. Based on the initial investigation, it didn't appear as if there was any danger to the public.

--A 35-year-old Brainerd man is accused of wielding an arrow, hammer and saw at two women claiming he was going to stab and chop them up. Marshall Jarvela is accused of threatening people. When officers arrived they ordered Jarvela to drop the items after a short struggle with officers Jarvela was subdued with use of a TASER. Bail was set at $30,000 with conditions or $100,000 without conditions. Jarvela has a history of disorderly conduct and assault convictions dating back to 1999. Jarvela will be back in court in Crow Wing County on September 19th.

--Law enforcement from four different agencies searched for a suspect who fled authorities after a traffic stop on County Road 1 southwest of Pillager. Around 5:00pm Saturday police made a traffic stop where the passenger fled on foot. Officers and K-9 units checked the area but were unable to find the suspect, who according to police had a number of outstanding warrants. Sheriff Tom Burch stated they know who the suspect is and that there is no danger to the public. They would not release the suspect's name stating that the investigation continues and that person is still being sought.

--8th District Congressman Rick Nolan announced he will be holding Congress Comes to You meetings with staff though October. They include September 20th at Wadena, Verndale, Staples, September 21st in Pillager City Hall at 9:30am, Motley at 11:30am and Randall City Hall at 2:00pm. September 28th staff will be in Garrison at 10:00am, then Pierz City Hall at 1:00pm. On October 5th, staff will be at Royalton City Hall at 8:30am then at Little Falls City Hall at 11:30am.

--The Crosby Police Department stated that the kidnapping incident reported on Sunday was false. Crosby police responded to an incident where a woman said that she and another woman had been kidnapped and held against their will and that she escaped and did not know where the female was. Police responded to a residence on Main Street where the other woman was found safe and said she was not kidnapped and that she had been in her residence all day. Police said they are investigating why the first woman made a false report and that could bring charges up against her.

--St. Cloud firefighters responded to Perkin's Restaruant at Crossroads Center around 6:00pm Monday. Flames were shooting from the roof the building. Firefighters sprayed water from a tower rig for over 30 minutes. Within a half-hour the fire was supressed and ventilation began inside the building. Perkins was evacuated. No injuries were reported. Early estimates from the St. Cloud Fire Department said there was approximately $100,000 worth of damage to the restaurant. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

--The annual Kids Day put on by Kinship of Morrison County will be on Saturday 9-11:30am at the Morrison County Fairgrounds.

--The Man vs. Beast Rodeo will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Morrison County Fairgrounds- gates open at 4pm both days.

--Last week a EF1 tornado touched down and damaged areas near Green Prairie Fish Lake in Morrison County and continued through Camp Ripley which was one of the heaviest impacted areas. The latest on the Camp Ripley damage assessment is the assessors have already viewed the damage and are in the process of working on a damage estimate. So at this time we do not have a damage estimate number but we expect one perhaps in the near future.

--The blaze that damaged eight apartments and six businesses Thursday on Main Street caused about $600,000 damage. Firefighters from Melrose, Freeport and Sauk Centre fought the fire for about six hours. By Tuesday, the fire marshal had cleared the scene. The cause remained undetermined. There was no link to the March 11th fire that caused almost $5 million in damage to the Church of St. Mary. Investigators determined arson was the cause of that fire. Whether further investigation takes place would be in the hands of insurance companies.

--A St. Cloud man pleaded guilty Monday to arson, admitting that he set a fire August 17th at St. Cloud Public Library that has closed the library for nearly a month. 47-year old Jorge Ozornia was accused of starting a fire on a chair on the second floor of the library and feeding it with pages torn from a book. He pleaded guilty Monday to one count of first-degree arson. He is scheduled to be sentenced November 21st. The library has been been cleaning up and assessing the damage from the fire, which caused damage to flooring, walls and furniture. Smoke damage and soot also have caused damage that requires repairs. The next step for the city of St. Cloud and the Great River Regional Library system is getting bids for the cleanup project. It could be weeks before the St. Cloud Public library reopens.

--The Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at 2:40 pm Sunday of an incident in Remer involving a gunshot wound. Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said a male had accidentally shot himself in the shoulder after dropping a .22-caliber firearm. The male was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries. No one else was home.
