Pillsbury State Forest in Cass County which borders northern Gull Lake is closed following Sunday’s heavy rain and windstorm in Cass and Crow Wing County. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division says all roads and recreational facilities in the state forest are closed until further notice. Uprooted and downed trees have made all forest roads and trails impassable. All campgrounds in Pillsbury State Forest, located just west of Brainerd, are inaccessible. The DNR says downed trees can pose a safety hazard. People are asked to obey the road, trail and campground closures and to not try to enter closed areas. After the damage is assessed, the DNR will prepare a plan for clearing the roads and removing trees that pose a hazard.
