Soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard’s 347th Regional Support Group are scheduled to host a Women’s Equality Day event this Wednesday at Camp Ripley. “The recent news of two women passing the rigors of Ranger School demonstrates the military’s efforts of integrating women into previously-restricted career field and Minnesota Army and Air National Guard female service members have served bravely under enemy fire in combat zones in roles that are essential to our nation’s success on the battlefield. Minnesota National Guard leadership continues to emphasize diversity at every level to ensure that the mission is met with the best-qualified and most capable people, regardless of gender. Army retired Cpt. Trista Matascastillo was honored as the 2011 Minnesota Woman Veteran of the Year and is our guest speaker for the event,” said Army Master Sgt. John N. Staab, 347th Regional Support Group’s Brigade Equal Opportunity Advisor. “Trista served in the Navy, Marine Corps and most recently the Minnesota National Guard where she was the first woman Air Defense officer and later commanded the 34th Military Police Company.” Military members and the general public are invited to attend the event from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Wednesday, August 26th at Camp Ripley’s Education Center. The presentation from the guest speaker starts at 2:00pm. For more information on the Minnesota National Guard, visit www.MinnesotaNationalGuard.org.
