A 40-year-old Brainerd man is facing seven charges after a high speed chase with authorities on Highway 371 Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 3:00am when Baxter police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle turning around at a dead end street. The driver failed to stop and turned onto Highland Scenic Avenue making it to Highway 371. The suspect, 40-year-old Torrey Winger continued into Morrison County where he attempted a turn at County Road 49 and slid off the road into a snowbank, then into a ditch. Though Winger reportedly attempted to flee on foot he was apprehended by Baxter Police with assistance from the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office. A search of Winger’s vehicle found him to be in possession of hypodermic needles which tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. Winger was charged Friday in Crow Wing County District Court with fleeing a peace officer and control substance crime which are felonies along with a number of misdemeanor charges.
