NEWS
--Yesterday afternoon, Superintendent of Pierz Schools George Weber informed students that Pioneer Elementary was named of the National Blue Ribbon Schools in the United States. Being a National Blue Ribbon School is the highest award our Nation can give to a school. Pioneer Elementary was nominated by the Minnesota Department of Education because our achievements in Mathematics and English place in the Top 15% of all Schools in our State. Out of the 131,000 schools in the United States, only 356 are named National Blue Ribbon Schools and only 7 in Minnesota were given this honor. The announcement was given by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cordona who said the honor is that other schools can see what has been accomplished and to continue to show other schools what is being accomplished at Pioneer Elementary. Congratulations to Pioneer Elementary School in Pierz for that great honor.

Shotguns must be 10-gauge or smaller with a shot size of four or smaller. Red dot scopes and range finders are legal but hunting dogs are not allowed. Also, baiting or the use of live turkey decoys is prohibited.

The tag must remain on the bird until registered and it must be registered within 24 hours. The feathers, head, and feet must remain on the bird until it's registered. Hunters will need to provide the permit area where the turkey was taken.
--The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s massive Highway 10/23 Interchange project is down to the final six weeks of work, and motorists navigating the area will need to be nimble. Officials say the area will likely look different day to day if you drive through it. Crews will switch traffic to the inside or outside lane depending on whether they are doing shoulder work or tending to the inside median. Highway 10 will continue to be one lane in each direction between Benton Drive SE and 15th Avenue SE. Highway 23 is also one lane in each direction from Lincoln Avenue to 25th Avenue. Eastbound traffic will switch to the new road by this Friday. The new traffic signals controlling the access ramps and loops at the bridge will come on when everything has been opened. The deadline for the project remains November 3rd. More details at 511mn.org on the project.
