NEWS
--There will be a prescription take back event on Saturday from 10am-2pm at Coborn's Marketplace. You are encouraged to drop off any unwanted or expired medications at the event on Saturday for proper disposal. There will also be a Coffee with the Cop event on Tuesday May 1st at 7:30am at the Upsala Community Center. Also unwanted or expired prescription drugs can be dropped off at the event in Upsala on Tuesday morning.

--An Albany teen was hospitalized after a rollover in Avon Township around 4:00pm Wednesday. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 17-year old Mitchell Yamry was heading south on County Road 9, toward County Road 156 in Avon Township. Yamry attempted to pass a school bus and two other cars when another came around a corner at him. Yamry lost control, going into the ditch, hitting a support line for a power pole. The car rolled landing its roof. He was taken to Melrose Hospital by his parents for non-life threatening injuries.

--Military leadership, Mental Health professionals and providers from around the state are attending the Military Mental Health Conference at Camp Ripley yesterday and today. The conference is intended as a rallying point for a diverse group of professionals and those in both military and civilian fields. Attendees include community members, mental health providers, case managers, military leaders, veterans, and caregivers. Also master resilience trainers and suicide intervention officers, currently serving with the Minnesota National Guard are attending, furthering available resource knowledge for service members of the largest military formation in the state. Several guest speakers along with military personnel and field professionals are taking part in the two day event to educate attendees on military culture with a strong focus on the unique clinical issues that providers and military members face. Additionally, details on how to provide the best support to military personnel and their families are being discussed during break-out sessions geared at specific topics. The Military Mental Health Coalition was created to work towards improving the overall health and wellness of military-connected members within the communities. They do this for all members of the Armed Forces by synchronizing efforts of existing resources, raising awareness of persistent challenges and bridging the civilian-military divide.

--Weekend event include the Morrison County Humane Society 2nd annual Fur Ball event on Saturday with food and drink, live music and an auction starting with social at 6pm and event at 7pm. Tickets are $30 or a whole table for $300. To purchase your tickets, table or donate to the auction call (320) 632-0703. There are free concerts tonight 7:30 in Pequot Lakes, tomorrow at 7:30pm at Crosby-Ironton High School and Sunday at 3:30pm at Tornstrom Auditorium by the Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota. St. Francis Community Chorale will perform a free concert with students and adults taking part at the St. Francis Convent in Little Falls Sunday at 2pm. --Former State Senator and Red Wing Mayor John Howe Thursday announced he will seek the Republican endorsement for Minnesota Secretary of State. Howe, 54, is a native of Chokio and has been Mayor of Red Wing and elected to Minnesota State Senate in 2010.

--Upsala Area School is hosting Parent Teacher Conferences for parents of students in grades 5-12 from 3:30-7:30pm on Monday.

--Little Falls and other schools will celebrate prom this weekend while Pierz and some others will next weekend. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen is reminding prom goers and everyone to never drink and drive. Also distracted driving which means driving while you are not fully paying attention to the road can be very dangerous. Some forms of distracted driving to avoid include talking on a phone or any activity that inhibits your ability to drive safely. Parents are also encouraged to talk to their kids so that they know where the kids are going, who they will be with at all times and what your expectations are. On behalf of all law enforcement Sheriff Larsen wished everyone a fun and memorable prom. Please be safe and have fun.

--Motorists who travel both directions of Interstate 94 between Monticello and Clearwater should be prepared to slow down or stop while segments of the road are reduced to a single lane during non-rush hours. The closures started last night and will continue through mid-June while crews grind rough pavement to improve the ride along 14 miles of the heavily traveled interstate. Motorists on I-94 between Monticello and Clearwater should slow down as they approach the daily work zone, and move over to give crews room to work while navigating the daily work zone.

NATIONAL NEWS
--Nearly a dozen people are reported injured and a large area is being asked to evacuate after a powerful explosion at the Husky Refinery in Superior, Wisconsin Thursday. The blast happened Thursday morning shortly after 10am. Emergency Management spokesperson Deb Stein says schools and other public facilities were evacuated. All workers inside the plant have been encountered for and because of the heavy smoke and some possible gas lines involved, air quality is being monitored.

--Legendary comedian Bill Cosby was convicted Thursday of drugging and molesting a woman back in 2004 in his Philadelphia home. Cosby faces now 30 years in prison and age 80 means he would spend his final years locked up. Cosby's attorney said they plan to appeal.
