--On Thursday Police in Bloomington identified the man who shot a father and son in a Bloomington parking lot last week before turning the gun on himself. 44-year-old Richard Myre of Belle Plaine drove his black pickup truck to the parking lot on France Place on February 1st where he met 25-year-old Dominick Dahmen and 55-year-old Dale Dahmen of Buffalo. Bloomington police say the Dahmens got in Myre's pickup truck shortly after 4:20pm and had a conversation which lasted about an hour and a half. Around 5:47pm police believe Myre showed the Dahmens his gun, and shot Dale Dahmen in the head. Then he got into a physical struggle with Dominick Dahmen and shot him seven times, killing him. Police say Myre then shot himself. Authorities believe the three men were involved in stock market trading. Bloomington police has passed along information to federal authorities, who are investigating alleged financial crimes.

--Two local Minnesota State Troopers were honored Thursday afternoon for their heroic acts and services to the people they serve and protect. Each year the Minnesota State Patrol recognizes citizens and members of law enforcement and emergency service agencies who performed commendable acts to assist troopers and help others. St. Cloud Trooper Matt Carlson will receive the Meritorious Service Award, which honors acts involving personal risk posing hazards which could lead to serious injury or loss of life to the employee. On September 29th, Carlson responded to a wrong-way driver on Highway 10 near Sauk Rapids. Other agencies attempted to stop the driver, but were unsuccessful. Trooper Carlson made the decision to use his squad to stop the vehicle, and was struck head-on by the wrong-way driver. The suspect was arrested and charged with criminal vehicular operation. Trooper Carlson was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for his injuries. OASS Holley Gries will receive the Exceptional Service Award, which recognizes employees who have provided extraordinary service in the performance of their duties. Gries regularly balances her district duties with added responsibilities including trooper training academies and statewide deployments. With her large area of responsibility and heavy workload, Gries consistently maintains a positive attitude and produces and excellent work product. The ceremony was in Mendota Heights.

--The employees at a boat manufacturer in northwestern Minnesota prevented a tragic situation Thursday. The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office says at about 7:20am deputies responded to an active shooter at the Lund Boat Company in New York Mills. Prior to law enforcement arriving, the employees of the plant had restrained the suspect. Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons said, “There was a round (fired) we understand within the building and potentially a round outside the building. 21-year-old David Gadsden of Henning is the alleged shooter. He is a current employee at the plant and now faces multiple charges after being arrested. It appeared to be some sort of confrontation between employees. No one was hurt in the incident.

--U.S. Congresswoman Angie Craig reportedly was assaulted in an apartment building elevator Thursday morning in Washington D.C. Authorities stated the 2nd District Congresswoman was entering the elevator when the assailant punched her in the chin and grabbed her neck. Craig tossed her coffee on the man and he ran off. Craig reportedly was bruised in the assault but otherwise was OK. The 26-year-old man was later found and arrested. Others stated seeing the man acting erratically earlier in the morning. She thanked the law enforcement for their quick response.

--Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen is asking that those heading out this week to the events in the area, or to watch the big football game on Sunday with parties scheduled at local bars and establishments to, please don't drink and drive. Larsen reminds us to plan ahead, enjoy the game or the events but remember to watch for others, pedestrians enjoying the nicer weather, watch your speed, and also in the past years domestic disturbances have arose from this weekend. Larsen said if you need assistance to call his office at any time at 320-632-9233 and if an emergency happens call 911. Let's make this a safe and super weekend for all involved. In a related note, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety announced that extra law enforcement will be out in force on Sunday, especially in the evening and overnight hours, as many will be leaving and heading home from the big game parties in the state.

--This weekend is likely to be the busiest for events this year so far. St. John's of Swanville has their Dinner and Auction event tonight at the Sobieski Community Center, dinner begins at 6:30m and auction at 8pm. The Pine Grove Zoo Gone Wild Dueling Pianos Fundraiser is tonight, tickets sold out weeks ago for this event. The Ice Fest tomorrow and Sunday from 10am-6pm at Green Prairie Fish Lake, come and see the carousel in a carousel by the Zwilling family, take part in the many winter activities both days, full details at MnIceFest.com and help donate to the Flyer Pride Pack backpack program and the Kare Kloset to help local children in feeding the hungry. There is a Love event Saturday 11-2 at the Bank Square Plaza with items for young and old to enjoy with many vendors showing of their items too. The Lindy Dancers and Just for Kix Dance Show is Saturday 11am at the High School. Crane Meadows rescheduled Candlelight Ski event is Saturday 5:30pm-8pm at the Wildlife Refuge southeast of Little Falls. There is a retirement party for Cleo Bieniek Saturday after the 4:30pm Mass in Flensburg. A Valentine's Dinner and Mass will be Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, Mass at 5pm with social and a candlelight dinner to follow around 6pm Saturday. Quilt Raffle and Bingo Sunday at 1pm at the Sobieski Community Center put on by the St. Anne's Mission. More events come up next week, go to fallsradio.com for details.

--Since the recent development with the Chinese balloon, recently reports of other balloons have surfaced including a balloon floating not too far away from St. Cloud Thursday morning. The good news is that it appears the balloon has a somewhat known flight path that can be seen at FlightAware.com. The website lists the balloon as Project Loon 618 HBAL618 and was to land yesterday afternoon.
