--Governor Tim Walz stopped in St. Cloud at noon yesterday on his statewide public safety tour and held a roundtable discussion focused on what his $300 million public safety plan would mean for St. Cloud and communities across the state. Under the Walz-Flanagan Budget to Move Minnesota Forward, St. Cloud would receive nearly $1.2 million per year. This roundtable discussion follows recent public safety meetings the Governor and Lieutenant Governor have had with community leaders in Stillwater, St. Louis Park, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Eagan, and North Minneapolis.

--The Minnesota State legislature is expected to look at walleye limits on Minnesota lakes during the legislative session. Some special interest groups are pushing for the walleye limit to move from 6 to 4 fish. Some lakes like Leech Lake already have a 4 walleye limit. There isn't any biological evidence that moving from 6 to a 4 walleye limit will benefit the walleye population as overall right now the DNR says the walleye population in the state is mostly good. This has been brought up at the Capitol in the past but has yet to ever pass.

--Twenty-two Brainerd parents want School Board members to resign and pay punitive damages related to the district’s face covering mandate this year. The district’s legal counsel, however, says there’s no legal basis for the demands. Brainerd School Board members received “notice of wrongdoing and demand for redress” documents Wednesday, March 9, signed by 22 district parents. In short, the parents are demanding board members — along with Superintendent Laine Larson and Assistant Superintendent Heidi Hahn — resign by April 1 and each pay every parent complainant $250,000 in damages. The face covering mandate, which is no longer in effect, required staff, students and all visitors to district buildings to wear a mask or face shield while inside the building, with certain exceptions made for athletes competing in sports and for those with identified medical or behavioral needs. The board began phasing out masking requirements in mid-February.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
--A reminder that Sunday Daylight Saving Time returns. Turn your clocks ahead one hour before 2am Sunday or before bed Saturday night to be on time for things on Sunday. This is also a good time to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly in case of an emergency. “Spring Ahead Sunday”. Daylight Saving Time's history goes back into the 1780s when they thought a 23 hour day in the winter and 25 hour day in the summer seems logical. It was not implemented in some the U.S. until 1916 and more common during World War II and then the energy crisis that was occurring in the 1970s. So spring ahead on Sunday 2am.
