NEWS
--The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism announced their March Employee of the Month is Kara Henze, who has been with Marshik Insurance Agency in Little Falls since 2019. Kara is the smiling face that the customer sees when they first walk in the office. She says she then tries to make everyone feel welcome, whether they are coming in to make a change on their current insurance, get a quote or file a claim. Congratulations to Kara Henze the March Employee of the Month.

--Criminals are targeting some of central Minnesota’s most vulnerable residents, just trying to put food on the table. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud is letting its food shelf users know about a scam on Facebook claiming you can get an additional $750 in aid from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program starting today. The perpetrators are trying to entice scrollers to click on a link for more information. Catholic Charities says do not click on any unknown links on social media. The link takes you to a Google site and isn’t legitimate. Similar scams have appeared on social media in the last couple of years, usually using some online payment. If you have questions, contact your SNAP representative.

--Minnesota’s 1,777 townships will hold their annual meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Known as Township Day, these annual meetings are held every year on the second Tuesday in March and sets townships apart from other forms of local government. At this meeting, residents of the townships will meet to voice their opinions about local issues with other township residents and also vote directly on their annual tax levy, direct democracy in action. Citizens attending annual meetings also often discuss and vote on other local issues. In addition, many of the state’s townships will hold their township officer elections on Tuesday’s Township Day though in prior years some townships in Morrison County has decided to move their Township elections to the November general election day. Townships today include over 900,000 Minnesota residents, represent an extraordinary form of local government.

--U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and U.S. Representative Angie Craig announced a resolution was introduced to honor Burnsville police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth who were killed in the line of duty, and Sergeant Adam Medlicott who was injured and hospitalized. In addition, the resolution recognizes law enforcement and first responders in Minnesota and across the country for their dedication to protecting and serving their communities. Craig leads the resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives which is also co-sponsored by U.S. Representatives Brad Finstad, Dean Phillips, Betty McCollum, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach and Pete Stauber.

--The U.S. Corp of Engineers announced they are opening the locks on the dams a bit earlier than usual due to the warmer weather this winter. The dams that were closed for maintenance in Hastings, Alma, Wisconsin and Welch will be reopened this coming week or by the latest March 16th if weather worsens.

--Weekend events include a fundraiser for Veterans put on by the Long Prairie Riders Saturday 3-7pm, soup and chili for free will offering, silent and live auction also at the Long Prairie American Legion. There are ham or quilt bingo on Sunday and more events can be viewed by going to fallsradio.com on community calendar.

--A 50-year-old was killed in an accident just after 8am Thursday in Aitkin County. Jeffrey Martinson of Aitkin was southbound on Highway 47, left the roadway and rolled the truck ejecting him from the vehicle. Martinson was pronounced dead at the hospital.

--Congratulations to our Royalton Robotics Teams! They will be competing the State Championship in St. Cloud at the Rivers Edge Convention Center throughout the weekend. The teams include Megabytes Jenna Zimmerman, Luke Rundquist, Ezra Kalis and Samantha Roering VEX IQ: Jackson Kasella, Maverick Bialke and Blake Roering Shock Waves: William Marschel and Charlie Barthel.

--The Little Falls City Council meets Monday night at 7:30pm with a special work session preceding the meeting at City Hall.

--Comedian Richard Lewis has died at age 76. Lewis appeared on HBO's Curb your Enthusiasm and also was Prince John in the Mel Brooks movie Robin Hood Men in Tights.

WRE= Simley beat Little Falls 46-18 in the state quarter-finals on Thursday in St. Paul then Watertown Mayer/Mayer Lutheran beat the Flyers in Consolation 34-24 Thursday ending the Flyers run at state in the team competition. Staples-Motley finished second beating their first two opponents but losing in the Class A Championship to Chatfield. Simley won the AA Title and St. Michael Albertville won the AAA Championship in wrestling. BBE took 3rd in Class A, Becker was 6th in Class AA, Willmar took 5th in Class AAA. Bertha Hewitt/Verndale Parkers Prairie as like the Flyers went 0-2 yesterday. Today is the individual competition beginning with wrestlers from Royalton/Upsala, Holdingford, Staples-Motley starting at 9am, then Little Falls and Pierz wrestle around 11am today winners move to 4:30pm round later today with wrestlebacks later tonight. GBB= Little Falls win 45-44 with a late 3-pointer to beat Detroit Lakes last night, Flyers will be at Alexandria Saturday at 1pm heard live on Q92 WYRQ. Pierz rolls over Greenway 62-23 and will face Pequot Lakes at 12:30pm Saturday in Duluth live on 94ROCKS. Roylaton, Upsala and Holdingford were also winners last night in first round girls games and will play again on Saturday in playoffs.
BBB= Pierz boys basketball playoffs are Monday at 6pm 94ROCKS, Little Falls is scheduled to open playoffs Tuesday night on Q92.
