--The Benton County Sheriff's Office stated that every day new scams emerge. The one thing they all have is common is a person trying to get your money or your personal information. The sheriff's office recently had a victim report receiving a call from someone claiming to be from a local police department stating they had evidence the victim had committed a crime and demanding payment in gift cards in lieu of arrest. You should automatically be suspicious of anyone who demands money from you unexpectedly, especially if they want payment in gift cards. Legitimate agencies or businesses will not accept gift cards as payment. If you receive a call, text, email that you are not sure of and you did not make any contact first to the place or item in question, delete it, hang up and never open them.
