NEWS
--Monday is Labor Day a Federal Holiday in the United States to thank those in the labor/work force who work hard every day. The holiday in recent years is more along the line as the unofficial end of summer as many students return to school the following day (though some schools have already started their school year, Morrison County schools begin next Tuesday or Wednesday depending on grade). With Labor Day on Monday, a reminder that all federal, state, county and city offices will be closed including city halls and government centers. Banks are closed, most financial places are closed, public libraries, post offices closed no regular mail delivery on Monday however priority mail and parcel service will be running on Monday. Schools are closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday which is this Monday September 4th. Many motorists are heading out this weekend for the holiday so remember to expect congestion, watch speeds and please don't drink alcohol or be under the influence of a controlled substance when driving. The State Patrol said extra law enforcement will be out on Minnesota highways looking for violators this weekend.

--A vehicle started on fire Wednesday night after 7pm in the Baxter Starbucks parking lot. The driver was not injured but informed the business there car was smoking as they went through the drive thru. The driver then got the car over to the local Jimmy Johns where firefighters were called to put out the fire. Loud bangs of tires exploding could be heard for quite a ways and the vehicle was ruled a total loss, but again no one was hurt.

--Residents of Isle were asked to lock their doors and stay in their homes Wednesday afternoon. The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office says they were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle into Isle Wednesday afternoon when the suspects ran on foot while the car was in gear. There was a large police presence in the area that included K-9 officers and drones. Shortly after 2pm, the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office said they had apprehended two of the four suspects and believed the other two had left the area. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office.

--A 78-year-old Brainerd man was injured Tuesday after his vehicle struck several trees on Highway 371 in Crow Wing County. The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash, reported at 2:52pm in Baxter. According to the report, a 2010 Ford Flex was southbound on the highway when the driver attempted to change lanes, side swiping a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 before going into the ditch and striking several trees. The driver of the Ford, Gary Leroy West, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Pickup driver Burch John Lawrence, 69, of Lino Lakes, suffered no reported injuries. The state patrol reported the road was dry at the time of the crash. Assisting at the scene was the Baxter Police Department.

--A man from Sleepy Eye is dead after a workplace accident on a farm in south central Minnesota. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office said it received several 911 calls Tuesday morning about a man involved in a farm implement accident at a property. According to deputies, 27-year-old, Austin Trebesch was taken to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center where he died. The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry is looking into the incident.

--A reminder that due to Labor Day on Monday, the Little Falls City Council will meet on Tuesday night at 7:30pm at City Hall.

--Watch out for school buses again starting on Tuesday morning.

--The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce September Employee of the Month is Donna Waldvogel at the Little Falls Community Schools. Donna has been a kitchen assistant at the schools for 19 years. Donna says she is always excited to see the kids go through the lunch line and loves to work so she has something to do. Donna also has a garden at the St. Francis Convent she cares for and volunteers a lot in the community. Congratulations to Donna Waldvogel the September Employee of the Month by the Little Falls Chamber.

--A Ramsey man was killed after crashing his motorcycle while trying to avoid hitting animals Sunday morning. A motorcyclist, around 9:30am was driving a Yamaha YZFR1 was traveling north on Highway 47 near Green Valley Road in Ramsey. when he swerved to avoid animals in the road, hitting a guardrail. The driver, identified as 39-year-old, David Borseth was killed in the crash.

--Weekend events include a fundraiser to help the Pierz American Legion Auxiliary today at Thielen's Meats in Pierz stop by and help out their group. Nitro Monster Truck Thunder Show is Saturday at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds 1:30pm and 7:30pm shows with pit parties before hand, tickets at the gate for either show Saturday. Saturday is the archeological event at the Historical Society in southwest Little Falls at 11am, 12pm and 1pm call 632-4007 to sign up for a time. Holy Cross Church Bazaar is Sunday in Harding, Polka Mass at 10am, large chicken and ham dinner from 11-2, food, kids games, bingo, live music and their large raffle in Harding and the Minnesota State Fair runs through Monday. GOPHERS= Gophers come from behind to beat Nebraska 13-10 last night to start off the College Football season.
HS FB= Little Falls beat Pierz 30-16 in football last night while Upsala/Swanville routs Pine River Backus 69-14 in football.
CLASS C= Avon vs. St. Martin tonight 7:30pm in Litchfield on KLTF.
CLASS C= Buckman vs. Hutchinson 4:30pm Saturday from Dassel while Nisswa vs. New Ulm is at Litchfield also at 4:30pm hear the games live on AM960 KLTF if they play at the same time then the Nisswa game will be on 94ROCKS 94.1FM on Saturday. Winners move on to Sunday and possibly Labor Day for a championship.
