--It's been a very good growing season in central Minnesota and that's expected to lead to a good harvest in our area. Nathan Drewitz is a University of Minnesota Extension Educator for crops. He says it likely won't be a record breaking harvest because of some early season rains. For example, weeds are expected to keep the soybean yield in check because many farmers had difficulty getting their pre emergent herbicides out on time. Drewitz added the corn fields dealt with some nitrogen issues due to early rainfall in Stearns and Benton Counties. Overall, Drewitz is expecting an above average harvest.

--Motorists traveling on Minnesota highways this fall need to be aware of large farm equipment transporting crops to markets, grain elevators and processing plants, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. From 2015 to 2017, there were six fatalities and 386 crashes involving at least one farm vehicle, according to the Department of Public Safety’s crash data. Of the six fatalities, three were farm vehicle riders. Of the 166 injuries, 56 were farm vehicle riders. Motorists should pay attention at all times when driving. Watch for debris dropped by trucks hauling sugar beets and other crops. It is safer to brake or slowly drive through debris than to veer into oncoming cars or off the road. When approaching farm equipment, slow down and use caution. Put additional space between your vehicle and the farm equipment ahead. Don’t assume the equipment operator can see you. Farm equipment operators should, use lights and flashers to make equipment more visible and use slow-moving vehicle emblems on equipment traveling less than 30 mph. Plan their routes so wide equipment will not hit or damage signs, guardrails, light poles and other roadway structures. Lets make this a safe harvest season on Minnesota roadways.

--A man had to be extricated from his vehicle after rolling it early Thursday morning. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says it happened at about 1:15am on County Road 50, near Fruit Farm Road, in Collegeville Township. 34-year-old Edwin Nelson of Watkins was driving south when his vehicle left the road in a curve, hit a driveway approach, and then hit some trees on the other side of the driveway. The vehicle came to a rest between some trees and a power pole. Nelson was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

--Residents along Merrifield Bay has been spotting another bog floating along the bay but this bog appears to be much smaller than the famous monstrous bog that broke from the shoreline in October 2017 and landed on the Legionville School Safety Patrol Training Center's swimming beach. It took volunteers with the North Long Lake Association and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources weeks this past spring to move that gigantic bog—estimated to be 8 million pounds—off the beach and to a location just to the north. The bog was broken up into pieces and staked to its current location to keep it from moving. The recent bog is being evaluated and likely is pieces of the original bog. No word yet on if the recent developments will encounter cutting up the bog again.
