–Little Falls City Council member Frank Gosiak spoke on KLTF Thursday about the Camp Ripley Veterans State Trail which will have a portion open on Saturday afternoon. Gosiak said it has been 10 years for the idea to become a reality and the best way to show it off is to host a ribbon cutting ceremony on the Bike to Park Day which falls on Saturday nationally. The trail will be for now from Mill Park to Lindbergh State Park on the southwest side of Little Falls. You can go over the Mississippi River bridge if you need to get to the west side and Gosiak said that bikes can go onto the newly paved area on the other side of the railroad tracks to get to Lindbergh Drive South and down to the park. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 2pm with Senator Paul Gazelka, Representative Ron Kresha, Mayor Greg Zylka and many other dignitaries in attendance to open the trail between Mill Park to Lindbergh State Park. Gosiak said the hope is still to have a trail that runs to Camp Ripley past the parks that are open this weekend and down to the Soo Line Trail near Royalton.

–Last week in Long Prairie decorative street lamps that lined Central Avenue had to be taken down. The lights have been in place for over 10 years, but were starting to break and corrode. In addition the company that produced the original lights is no longer in business. Since then many have voiced their opinion in the matter. Long Prairie Mayor Jodi Dixon joined posted this to her own Facebook page: To the citizens of Long Prairie: I was informed that many members of the city are upset that the decorative lights are being removed on Central Avenue. I understand your concern regarding this. Unfortunately, they had to be removed. The bases were all corroded and they were falling down on their own, or with little assistance of community members. They were a huge hazard to have around. The city looked into fixing them by replacing parts. However, the company that made them is now defunct. We are making progress on fixing Central Avenue. To continue progress, changes need to be done. Safety for all is our main concern. Next year new light poles will be put in. Not sure of the style yet. Cost and candlepower will both be taken into consideration. Thank you for your understanding.
