--A recent traffic stop in Benton County resulted in the arrest of one person for possession of suspected methamphetamine. About 11:15am Monday a Benton County patrol sergeant was driving on in Minden Township when he observed the vehicle approaching him was displaying registration tabs from 2017. The patrol sergeant made contact with the driver, 61-year old Virgil Timothy Pouliot of Gilman. Pouliot indicated that he knew the registration on the vehicle was expired. While speaking with the driver, the patrol sergeant noted that the passenger, 48-year old Gregory Werdin Borth of St. Cloud, was exhibiting physical indications that Borth had recently been using controlled substances. Pouliot was asked to provide proof of liability insurance for the vehicle, but was unable to do so. The patrol sergeant conducted a warrant check on Borth and learned that Borth had an active arrest warrant from Stearns County for 5th Degree Controlled Substance Crime. Borth was placed under arrest for this warrant. When Borth was searched, the patrol sergeant found drug paraphernalia and several small baggies containing suspected methamphetamine. Inside Borth’s backpack the patrol sergeant found drug paraphernalia, hypodermic needles, several small packages containing residue of suspected methamphetamine. Pouliot was cited at the scene of the stop for the vehicle registration violation and failure to provide proof of insurance. Borth was transported to the Benton County Jail and held on his warrant from Stearns County and his new charges of 5th Degree Controlled Substance Crime and Possession of Hypodermic Needles.
