NEWS
--Authorities have released information on a motorcycle crash that killed a former Morrison County deputy. The crash happened near the intersection of Sherburne County Roads 4 and 5 in Orrock Township near Big Lake just before 2pm on Saturday. The sheriff's office says 51-year-old David Scherping of Orrock Township was driving his bike south on County Road 5 when a northbound pickup turned in front of the motorcycle. According to the Morrison County Sheriff's Office, Scherping is a retired sheriff's deputy. The crash threw Scherping off the bike. The sheriff's office says he was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup, 57-year-old Robert Swift of Becker, was not hurt.

--A one-vehicle crash northwest of Sauk Centre early Sunday morning has claimed the life of the driver. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a car rollover and an unconscious man lying in the road at about 1:30am. Sheriff’s deputies and Sauk Centre officers arrived at the 43000 block of County Road 17 in Sauk Centre township to find a 2012 GMC Terrain SUV in the ditch that had rolled several times. 24-year-old Collin Flynn of Detroit Lakes was lying in the roadway unresponsive. Flynn was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

--A three vehicle accident Sunday at 4:15pm on Highway 371 in Pine River of Cass County sent one person to the hospital. 66-year-old Randy Rittenhouse of Motley was on 371 crossed over the center-line and struck 73-year-old Cyran Arthur of Hackensack. Arthur was treated at Brainerd hospital for injuries. Rittenhouse reportedly was not injured. A third vehicle collided with the Arthur vehicle from behind. That was driver from Federal Dam was also not injured.

–A couple from Deerwood were injured Friday afternoon around 5pm when their vehicle struck a semi-truck on Highway 371 of Crow Wing County. Mikael Christenson was north on 371 when a semi-truck pulled out from the intersection of Nashway Road and they collided. The semi-truck driver 33-year-old Andrew Robben of Staples was not hurt. Christenson and passenger both age 39 from Deerwood, Lacy Christenson were both treated for non life threatening injuries.

--A 19-year-old man was charged in Crow Wing County District Court with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl on May 14 at his apartment in Baxter. Tyler Anthony Kolas was charged with felony criminal sexual conduct with non-consensual penetration. The charge carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $10,000 fine. According to court documents, law enforcement was contacted on May 15 regarding a sexual assault the previous day. The girl told officers arrangements were made over Snapchat for Kolas to pick her up from her residence. After Kolas picked up the girl, he drove to his apartment on Clearwater Road. The girl said when they arrived, he brought her to his bedroom and wanted to cuddle with her when she told him no. Kolas eventually got on top of her, she said. She told him to stop but Kolas continued to sexually assault her. She also said Kolas asked her how old she was. After she told him, his response was, "wow, that's a little bit young." Kolas said he asked her how old she was after the incident. Kolas’ was given a $30,000 bail or bond without conditions. Kolas is due back in court on August 1st.

--There is an open house 3-6pm Thursday at EEI in northwest Little Falls, the free event will have tours, refreshments and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:30pm that evening with the Chamber to unveil their new glass recycling system they use at the site.

--There will be a "State Send-Off Pep Rally" for Upsala Softball today in the gymnasium at 11am on Wednesday. The fire escort/parade out of town will follow at 11:30 as the team heads down to Mankato. Good luck to the Cardinals. A reminder that that the parade will halt some traffic into Upsala during that time today for the send-off. Upsala will take on Randolph Thursday at 1:30pm from Mankato hear the game live on Thursday on AM960 KLTF and fallsradio.com.

--Little Falls Chamber of Commerce CEO Purva Watten talked on KLTF yesterday and mentioned the Legislative Update will be on June 20th at 8:30am at Little Falls City Hall, the Chamber Golf Outing will be July 10th and you can still sign up teams for that event. She mentioned that they have worked on a merger with Visit Little Falls and they needed 51% of the Chamber members to vote in favor of the merger and they have received that number from their recent voting online. So next is to file the information with Secretary of State and the Attorney General's office for the transfer and merger of the two entities in Little Falls and working together for the future of the area. Purva also mentioned that the 50th Little Falls Arts and Crafts Fair will be coming to Little Falls on September 9th and 10th through the downtown area and beyond and they have juried members already and their early bird sign up has expired but if you want to be part of the event as a vendor, food vendor or volunteer contact the Chamber of Commerce at 632-5155. Purva also wanted to thank the entire community in making her transition at the Chamber these past few months enjoyable and successful.

--A Sauk Rapids woman is accused of using her car to injure a man during an altercation in St. Cloud on Sunday. 32-year-old Kiri Roering is accused of using her car to pin a man up against a second vehicle, leaving him with a leg injury. Officers arrived at a home along 35th Avenue North just before 8:45pm to find a man lying on the ground. According to the criminal complaint, a woman said Roering showed up and accused her of stealing generators. The two allegedly got into a physical fight when the victim went outside to intervene. Roering got in her vehicle and began to drive away, but then turned around and drove at the woman's Jeep. The man stepped in front and held out his hand for her to stop. Roering fist stopped, but then drove into the man pinning the man against the Jeep. She's in court on July 6th.

--There is fundraiser Brewskis for Newskis event Thursday 4-9pm for the Little Falls Flyer Nordic Ski team at Starry Eyed Brewing Company north of Little Falls. The family friendly event is to raise funds for the Nordic Ski Team.

HS BAB= Little Falls vs. Rocori for the section championship today, Flyers need to win twice, first game at 4pm on AM960 KLTF.
