NEWS
--Fire danger is high in Morrison County and restrictions are on at this time in Central Minnesota. With the high fire danger caused by strong winds and dry conditions, burning restrictions are in place and getting permits to burn may be difficult at this time. Wildfires can spark and spread easily with these weather conditions so be cautious.

--Benjamin Herold, a student at Pierz Healy High School, won an iPad through the iHELP Scholarship program. The iHELP Scholarship was created to provide college bound students with an additional resource for free money to assist in pursuing their dreams. The iHELP $1,000 scholarship is awarded, by random draw, to five South Dakota and three Minnesota high school students attending a U.S. college, university or technical institute in the fall. All applicants are also eligible to win one of two iPads. More than 6,000 students applied for this year's scholarship drawing.

--A St. Cloud man suspected of two domestic assaults is facing four felony charges after a woman documented injuries she sustained in the assaults on Wednesday. Officers were dispatched about 10:06pm Wednesday to speak to an individual on a report of domestic assault. Officers learned the victim, an adult woman, had been assaulted. The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Richard Danell Dunston of St. Cloud. According to the criminal complaint, the victim reported Dunston had assaulted her "almost daily for the past five years," and indicated she had not reported the abuse because she "is terrified he will kill her." The victim detailed two recent instances of abuse to officers of which Dunston is suspected. Dunston was arrested at early Thursday and booked in the Stearns County Jail. He faces two felony domestic assault charges in connection with the first incident and two felony-level domestic assault charges in the other incident.

--Motorists who travel Highway 4 through Lake Henry will encounter delays and detours after the road closes for construction beginning Monday, May 7th. Motorists and residents should plan for posted detours and work zones. All businesses and residences within the work zone will remain accessible at all times. The closures and work are part of a project to reconstruct Highway 4 through Lake Henry in 2018. The project will reconstruct the roadbed, resurface the roadway, improve sidewalks and driveway entrances, move power poles outside of the curb line, and install new curb and gutter and underground utilities. --One person is hurt after a three vehicle crash in St. Cloud Friday afternoon. The incident happened at 1:40pm at the intersection of Highway 15 and Veteran's Drive. The Minnesota State Patrol says 32-year-old Michael Johnson, of St. Cloud was stopped at a stoplight heading east on Veteran's Drive. He then entered the intersection against a red light and struck a Dodge Caravan heading north on Highway 15. The crash then pushed the Caravan into a third vehicle heading west on Veterans Drive. Johnson and his passenger, 30-year-old Jeffrey Haag of Richmond, were not hurt. The driver of the second vehicle, 44-year-old Brenda Rodenborg, of Mora, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Her passengers and the third driver involved were all not injured.

--The Morrison County Veterans Service Office will be hosting a spring into spring event for information, resources, wellness, discussion and opportunity to voice questions about what the Veterans Service Office can do for you if you are a past, present or family member of a veteran. The free event is at the Little Falls VFW and runs from 11am-1pm and another 6-8pm. For more information on the spring event, call Kathy at 632-0290.

--The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death of a 40-year-old Brainerd woman who was found unresponsive Wednesday at a home on the 6600 block of Estate Circle Drive in Brainerd. The body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. The sheriff's office stated the incident is being investigated to determine the exact nature surrounding the death. No foul play is suspected and the preliminary autopsy showed the woman died of natural causes.

--Pequot Lakes Police Chief Eric Klang announced Friday that he is running for Crow Wing County Sheriff. Klang previously served as sheriff for Crow Wing County from 2003-2007, Brainerd police chief before that and has been police chief of Pequot Lakes since 2011.

--A St. Cloud man pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting a woman in 2014. 25-year old Christopher Kapol was arrested and jailed in December in connection with third degree criminal sexual conduct. Kapol is expected to be sentenced to six years and five months in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for August 3rd.

TWINS= Reds outslug Twins Friday 15-9 at Target Field. Twins win on Saturday 3-1 over Reds to end their losing streak. Reds then win series by beating Twins 8-2 on Sunday. Twins (9-14) open with Toronto at Target Field tonight 6:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
NFL= Vikings elected Mike Hughes, a defensive back from Central Florida in first round of NFL Draft, then in the 2nd round selected Brian O'Neil, an offensive tackle from Pittsburgh. They traded their third pick to Tampa Bay giving the Vikings had 7 picks on Saturday to finish the out the NFL Draft. The Vikings open the 2018 season at home against San Francisco on Sunday, September 9th.
