NEWS
--Strong winds, heavy rains and a brief tornado touchdown rolled through Stearns County Friday. The National Weather Service had a radar indicated tornado touchdown near Melrose and another near Belgrade in western and northwestern Stearns County around 7pm. The storms moved thorugh southern Todd and southwestern Morrison County with strong winds before 8pm then weakened. Some heavier rain moved through late Friday night and dropped just under ¾ of a inch at Little Falls Radio and .86 at the Little Falls Airport. However many other spots had every rains including over 3 inches by Fort Ripley, 2.5 in Camp Ripley, over 2 inches near Randall while other areas had much less including around a half inch in the Pierz area. More rain was forecasted last night and again on Tuesday.

--A Twin Cities man drowned in northern Minnesota Thursday while swimming in Leech Lake. Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch says dispatchers received a report of a swimmer struggling in the water near Sand Point just before 1pm. The caller said they saw a man in the water near a pontoon, but as they got closer the man had disappeared. Deputies arrived on scene, located the drifting pontoon and immediately began a search of the area. Sheriff Burch says the body of a 65-year old man from Oak Grove was recovered around 2:15pm. The victim was transported to the Ramsey County Coroner's Office for an autopsy. His identity has not been released as the sheriff's office is still locating family members.

--Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen spoke on AM960 KLTF Friday morning and mentioned that there continues to be an uptick in traffic incidents and in most cases speed has been factor in accidents some fatalities, ATV accidents that turned fatal and are reminding motorists to slow down after a string of speeding violations on roadways with speeds clocked over 100mph not just on state roads but also on county and township roads. Larsen said that another issue has been suicides and dealing with mental illness issues and are asking if you know someone who may need help reach out to the Morrison County Chapalin Gregg Valentine through the sheriff's office to help give advice and also he has been called out to many fatal calls and suicide calls this summer to help with family members in times of this crisis. Sheriff Larsen also wants to remind residents if you need to remove and deactivite prescription drugs safely or drugs that do not get into the wrong hands, the sheriff's office has Deterra drug deactivation bags that can be used for this by putting the drugs into the bag, add water and shake, then dispose of safely. Otherwise you can still use the drop off containers at the Sheriff's Office, Little Falls Police, Pierz City Hall and in Motley to help remove of drugs. --A Redwood Falls woman was injured Friday morning in a two vehicle accident on Highway 64 north of Motley in Cass County. 69-year-old Teresa Mccarthy of Minneapolis was southbound when she stopped fast and and collided with a vehicle driven by 62-year-old Cindi Tisue. Tisue was taken to Staples Hospital for her injuries that were deemed non life threatening from the State Patrol.

--Markets and Music on the Mississppi is this Thursday with markets at 3pm, music by Levi Pelzer Band at 6pm. Kris Vonberge from Visit Little Falls MN will be the guest on Community program Tuesday morning around 8:30am to discuss this on AM960 KLTF.

--The Morrison County Commissioners meet Tuesday at 9am at the government center boardroom with reports from county agencies.

--The Friends of the Little Falls Library will be bringing back their Book Sale September 9th through the 11th. Again this year the Friends have sorted books by genre: fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, mystery, romance, etc. They will cover the tables and floor of the meeting room at the Carnegie Library for three days, with the last day, Saturday September 11, being $2-a-bag-day. A special Members Only sale will be held on the night before the public sale, Wednesday, September 8 , from 5:30 - 7 pm. This will be open to members of the Friends of the Library with their membership card or ID. Memberships can also be purchased at the door for $10. Hours for the public sale are Thursday, 10 am - 5 pm, Friday, 10am - 5 pm, and Saturday 10 am - 2 pm. The twice-a-year sales are fundraisers for the Little Falls Carnegie Library, supporting programming, acquisitions, and outreach. The library is located at 108 3rd St NE.

--The ongoing drought throughout Minnesota and North and South Dakota is forcing duck hunters to adjust their plans for this fall. Outdoor News says we should expect smaller broods of birds and not as many young ducks due to the dry, drought like conditions. He says it is very important for duck hunters to check out their typical hunting spots because many ponds where they normally find ducks are dried up. Glen expects more duck hunters to move their duck hunting to lakes instead because ducks will need to change where they locate as well. North Dakota is especially hit hard this spring and summer and without water in North Dakota they won't have ducks and this will affect Minnesota Duck Hunters as the year progresses if there is no rain.

TWINS= Yankees beat the Twins 10-2 on Friday. Yankees win again on Saturday 7-2. Due to Hurricane Henri the game Sunday was postponed and will be made up September 13th. Twins have today off then head to Boston tomorrow night to take on the Red Sox.
VIKINGS= Colts beat Vikings 12-10 Saturday in preseason football The Vikings are at Kansas City on Friday night to finish preseason.
CLASS C= Sobieski shut out Windom 2-0 Saturday as Caleb Strack had 17 strikeouts for the Skis. They will play Isanti Sunday at 4:30pm in Chaska. Princeton eliminated St. Stephen on Sunday 1-0. Foley defeated Stark 6-4 to move on Sunday at the Class C Tournament. Foley plays Friday night at 7:30pm, Avon 11am Sunday and Sobieski plays at 4:30pm Sunday live on AM960 KLTF and fallsradio.com.
