NEWS
--The Little Falls Carnegie Library building in Little Falls was struck by lightning Thursday night and the library was closed Friday and Saturday with hopes to reopen today if the city's repairs are completed. They were working as quickly as possible to reopen.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Swanville VFW, Swanville Legion and the Swanville Lions for their financial donation which allowed their agency to purchase 3 Drones, in honor of past Commissioner Duane Johnson. The Sheriff's Office is also sending out a warning that they are seeing larger quantities of methamphetamine, just like other areas of our state. Sheriff Shawn Larson said they will continue to combat this issue with education and enforcement, but they need everyone’s help. If your a parent, start talking about this issue with your children. Let them know the dangers. It’s important that you know who your children hang out with. Prevention and education measures can eliminate a lot of future problems later on in life. The Sheriff's office is reminding residents if you notice suspicious activity do not hesitate to contact the sheriff's office so they can investigate at (320) 632-9233.

--Motorists who travel Highway 371 between Highway 10 in Little Falls and Morrison County Road 48/233rd Street, just north of Little Falls, may encounter delays while segments of the road are reduced to a single lane from sunrise to sunset, up to seven days per week, beginning on Tuesday. The lane closures are needed while crews resurface the road. Motorists approaching the daily work zones should slow down, be prepared to stop, and move over to give crews room to safely complete their work. All lanes of Highway 371 will open by September 15th. --Another road project begins today for motorists on both directions of Interstate 94 in Monticello, they should watch for stopped traffic overnight as the road is reduced to a single lane, and intermittently closes. The lane and road closures are needed while crews set bridge beams, and begin deck construction, for the new I-94/Fallon Avenue overpass bridge in Monticello. The closures are expected to be complete by September 14th.

--An Iowa man could avoid prison time for fatally stabbing another man while at a party in St. Cloud last fall if he can abide by the conditions of his probation. In May, 23-year old Robin Hanson of Deloit, Iowa pleaded guilty to one count of 2nd degree murder without intent while committing a felony in the stabbing death of 22-year old Andre Reaves also of Deloit, Iowa. A Stearns County judge sentenced Hanson to 12-and-a-half years in prison but stayed the term for up to 40 years if Hanson stays out of trouble. The judge also sentenced Hanson to a year in jail which he will serve in 90-day increments every six months. Officers found Reaves had been stabbed in the torso, was lying in a pool of blood while others were performing life-saving efforts on him. Reaves died at St. Cloud Hospital about an hour later. Hanson told police he panicked before stabbing Reaves and put the knife in his car. Officers recovered the knife with what appeared to be blood on the blade.

--The St. Francis Convent will be hosting a two day blood drive. Since blood remains in high demand as we head back to school and into the Labor Day weekend. The blood drive is 12-6pm both today and tomorrow. Contact Sister Julien at 632-0663 for an appointment.

--The City of Little Falls announced a water shutoff Tuesday, August 28th and Wednesday, August 29th. The water will be shut off on Pondview Drive from 8:45am to 2:00pm to repair the water line.

--St. Cloud Police are investigating an aggravated robbery on the east side of St. Cloud after reports of shots fired Tuesday night. The report stated that shots were fired at a mobile home in the Sherwood Manor Trailer Park at 555 South Highway 10 around 9:30pm. During the same time, they also received reports of shots being heard across Highway 10 at the America's Best Value Inn and Suites. When police arrived at Sherwood Manor, they found a 58-year old man had been assaulted and robbed by a suspect, later identified as 37-year old Aaron Moreno of Sauk Rapids. According to authorities Moreno allegedly hit the victim in the head with a handgun and fired multiple shots inside the home. Moreno was found across Highway 10 at the motel, where he tried to run from officers. He was tased and arrested. Authorities say during the chase, the gun suspected to have been used in the assault fell from his sweatshirt pocket. The handgun was found to be stolen. Moreno was also wanted on a federal warrant for weapons violations. Police say the motive for the assault is unclear, however, may be drug-related. Moreno was booked into the Benton County Jail on several charges including, 2nd degree assault, aggravated robbery, felon in possession of a gun, and possession of a stolen firearm.

--Utility work near the site of the new Costco store in St. Cloud will close an adjacent street starting today. Crews will be working on 33rd Avenue South between 2nd Street South and St. Germain Street West. Access to local businesses will remain, but the street will be closed to through traffic. The closure of 33rd Avenue South is expected to last approximately three weeks. Detours will be posted.

NATIONAL NEWS
--Longtime Arizona Senator John McCain died Saturday after a battle with cancer. McCain was 81 and first elected to the Senate in 1986. McCain was the Republican candidate for President in 2008.

NFL= Vikings get two late touchdowns Friday to beat Seattle 21-20, they finish the preseason Thursday night at Tennessee.
CLASS C= Buckman beat Hadley Saturday 7-5. Sobieski shut out Jackson 2-0 Sunday. New Market eliminated Ft. Ripley 4-3 Sunday. Hutchinson beat Lastrup 12-2 in 7 innings eliminating the Lakers. Sobieski vs. New London Spicer, Saturday 11am followed by Buckman vs. Lake City at 1:30pm Saturday. Both games live on AM960 KLTF.
