--Last week on Little Falls Radio, Doug Luepke of the Royalton Lions announced that the Royalton Friends of the Lions award winner this year is Little Falls Radio. Little Falls Radio was chosen for the years of helping to promote activities for the Lions and their contributions to help with dozens of projects around the area. A plaque will be presented at the Christmas/End of the Year dinner which is usually held in January. Little Falls Radio is honored to receive the award from the Royalton Lions and glad to continue to support the projects done by their organization and others in our local community.

--The Morrison County Sheriff's office has received numerous calls regarding an IRS scam. This scam as well as others continue to occur frequently so please do not give out your personal information to anyone over the phone. Scare tactics and threats of arrest are sometimes used by the suspect(s). Be careful so you don’t fall victim to any of these scams.

--Formal charges have been filed against a Little Falls man accused of giving heroin to his aunt who overdosed at a St. Cloud mobile home park. 28-year old Matthew Vogelsang is charged with 3rd degree murder and a 4th degree controlled substance crime. St. Cloud Police were called to a mobile home on May 3rd for an unresponsive woman. Officers arrived to find 62-year old Julie Vogelsang dead inside. Matthew Vogelsang allegedly told his dad he had given the woman heroin. The charges allege Matthew Vogelsang called 911 and posed as his brother and then fled the scene because he had arrest warrants out on him. Police searched the home and found needles and other paraphernalia associated with heroin use. Brian Vogelsang said the materials were his son's. He also said his sister was just fine earlier that morning and did not have any complaints or any sickness. He also told officers his son is a heroin user and believed that his son gave the drugs to his sister. Police were able to track down Matthew Vogelsang Tuesday when he was booked into the Morrison County Jail on the outstanding warrants. An autopsy of the victim determined her cause of death was toxic effects of multiple drugs including heroin, codeine and methamphetamine. The combined effects of the drugs, even in small doses, can lead to death. Vogelsang will be transferred to the Benton County Jail to face the charges. No court date has been set at this time.

--Little Falls native Antoinette “Toni” Wetzel is now Judge Wetzel after being sworn in during a ceremony where she was sworn in by the retiring Judge Douglas Anderson who administered the oath of office to Wetzel and shared with her a letter he had received from her father, Judge George Wetzel, with advice on being a judge. After being sworn in, Wetzel’s mother, Erna Wetzel, helped her put on her judge’s robe for the first time.

--Teresa and Todd Wooden found the Crow Wing County Fair Medallion Wednesday afternoon behind the curling club building at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds.

--The Morrison County Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9:00am at Little Falls City Hall inside the council chambers. During the meeting the commissioners will set the Truth in Taxation meeting date. They will also hear reports from Hands of Hope, Social Services, Public Health, Land Services and Veterans Affairs.

--Heavy rain and gusty winds went through central Minnesota Friday night. The storms produced severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Kandiyohi, Meeker, Wright, Stearns, Benton, Sherburne and Mille Lacs Counties. The storm also produced a brief tornado warning for Meeker County, although there were no confirmed reports of a touchdown. The storms were packing winds between 60-70 miles an hour as it raced across central Minnesota with unconfirmed reports of damage to trees and power lines in parts of Meeker County. Earlier in the day, warnings were issued for Cass and Crow Wing County due to very heavy rains and winds along with large hail from Pillager through Brainerd dropping 2-3 inches of rain quickly. More rain Saturday caused massive street flooding in St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids as 5 inches of rain fell in the morning hours that led to closures. Power lines were also snapped and outages were reported. Rain dampened parts of Morrison County but Little Falls saw very little on Saturday compared to other areas. Most of the state should begin to dry out today and mainly dry conditions through Friday.

--The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is investigating three burglaries that happened in St. Stephen. Sheriff Don Gudmundson says the first of the three happened at Howie's Bar on Saturday, July 28. A witness told deputies they noticed a man, wearing a white shirt, stick his head out the bar's door and go back inside. Deputies didn't find anyone inside the bar. Later that same morning, another burglary was reported in the 7000 block of 438th Street in St. Stephen. Items taken include a Husqvarna saw, two Stihl chainsaws and Maxxis Bighorn ATV tires. The victim says he saw a pickup parked near his home around midnight and it left when he walked toward the vehicle. The third burglary happened in the 10000 block of 440th street in St. Stephen on Sunday, July 29. Gudmundson says a shed was broken into and a blue dirt bike and child's pink camouflage ATV were taken. TWINS= Twins battle two long rain delays and still managed to beat the Royals late Friday/early Saturday 6-4. Eddie Rosario had a big game Saturday night as Twins win 8-2 over Royals before the game Johann Santana inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame. Jake Cave hit a grand slam to give Twins the sweep Sunday 6-5 over the Royals. The Twins (52-58) are in Cleveland tonight at 5:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
LYNX= Seattle beat the Lynx Friday night 85-75 in Seattle. Atlanta hits 12 three pointers to beat Lynx 86-66 Sunday, Lynx lost 3 in row.
8C= First game Saturday goes 12- innings as Lastrup eliminates Nisswa 8-7 to advance to the state tournament. Fort Ripley took out Upsala 7-4 to advance to state in game 2 Saturday. Sobieski took care of Buckman Saturday 13-1 to move on to the Region Championship next Saturday in Upsala. On Sunday Lastrup wins over Fort Ripley 5-4, and Buckman defeated Lastrup 7-0 so that means that Buckman will face Sobieski Saturday at 1pm for the region championship in Upsala, Buckman would have to beat Skis twice.
