NEWS
--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday at approximately 3:24am, their office received a report of a possible crash that was reported through a cell phone crash alert
feature, near the intersection of 30th Street and Dairy Road, in Elmdale Township, just east of Upsala. According to the Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel arrived on scene confirming a single vehicle crash with a single occupant that was unresponsive and did not have a pulse. Life-saving measures were performed on the driver but were unsuccessful. During the course of the investigation, it appears that the driver of the vehicle was westbound on 30th Street and entered the ditch on the south side of the road. The vehicle, a Buick Regal, traveled approximately 100 yards in the ditch before driving back on the roadway. The vehicle then crossed both lanes of traffic and eventually rolled in the north ditch, just west of Dairy Road, before coming to a stop. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Hayden Edstrom, from Freeport was pronounced dead at the scene. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Upsala First Response Team and Upsala Fire Department.

--The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to solve a series of break-ins at the Benton County Fair. Officials say they’ve received three reports of break-ins after the fair closed Wednesday, August 2nd, and before the fair opening Thursday, August 3rd. Epicure, located on an outside space near the Discover Building, reported several bags of pasta were stolen from their booth. The Maid-Rite building was broken into and the suspect, or suspects, stole the start-up cash found in the building. The Ubetcha Minnesota Grill suffered damage to their building and equipment when an unknown suspect or suspects forced entry into the building, but no cash was taken. --On the early morning hours of Sunday, July 30th, 2023, the Crow Wing County Tactical Response Team (TRT) was called to assist the Baxter Police Department with the apprehension of Scott Peter Henrikson, and rescue of the 2-year-old male Henrikson had reportedly abducted. The TRT was on scene for several hours staged in an area outside the garage where Henrikson had barricaded himself with the child. Due to the escalated actions of Henrikson, and his increasingly agitated behavior, the TRT was given instruction to make a forced entry to rescue the child. The TRT discovered all entry doors were barricaded, but were able to force their way inside. Upon the TRT’s forced entry, a member of the team had an accidental discharge of their patrol rifle. The TRT discovered Henrikson and the juvenile male inside a vehicle in the garage. Henrikson was taken into custody, and the child was rescued and brought out to his mother. There were no injuries as a result of the discharged firearm. The TRT member, a deputy with the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s office, was placed on administrative leave while this incident is investigated.

--At their recent event 100+ Women who Care of Morrison County met with 74 women participating. Many local non-profits were nominated by those in attendance, three were randomly selected to be presented on by the nominee and Drive “Fore” Cancer received the most votes and received a check for $7,400 to help their efforts. The next 100+ Women Who Care Event of Morrison County will be held Monday, October 23rd at the Little Falls Theater.

--Reminder City crews are working on 18th Street Northeast beginning today, watch for signs and cones around the work zone. 18Th Street will only have one lane going in each direction until work is completed. This will also include the turn lanes onto 18th Street from Highway 27. Please remember to slow down please in work zones.

--A Sauk Centre man is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a park. Stearns County authorities say the 15-year-old girl went to the Sauk Centre Police station on Tuesday to report she had just been sexually assaulted at Sinclair Lewis Park. Officers went to the park on Wednesday and saw 32-year-old Darwin Velasquez Laguna pull into the parking lot and act like he was looking for someone. The girl's description of the suspect matched Velasquez Laguna and police arrested him. According to the charges, Velasquez Laguna initially denied having any sexual contact with the girl but later admitted he did. Velasquez Laguna is charged with 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim between 14 and 15 years old.

--A train derailment had forced the closure of two railroad crossings by Highway 10 near Perham in Otter Tail County. There were no injuries and there is no threat to public safety. Two crossings and one county highway were closed on Friday while clean up was being completed. The derailment occurred just before midnight Thursday night.

--There will be a performance of the Kingery Family music group tonight at Community Country Church in Holdingford at 7pm. Along with an ice cream social and others items to take in tonight. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for the event.

--The Little Falls City Council meets tonight starting at 7:30pm.

TWINS= Twins win 3-2 Friday night on three homeruns. Saturday they inducted Joe Mauer into the Twins Hall of Fame and then routed the D-Backs 12-1. After a long rain delay Sunday the Twins needed the last at bats to win with a walk off hit in the 9th to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 and sweep the weekend series. Twins travel to Detroit tonight to take on the Tigers, 5pm pregame on Q92 WYRQ.
VFW= Little Falls beat Osseo 4-3 on Thursday at state tournament then lost 2-1 to Mankato East Friday afternoon. Friday night Little Falls beat Rock Ridge 12-1 to move into the final four on Saturday where they lost 14-11 to Owatonna and were eliminated.
REGION 8C= Saturday: St. Stephen beat Foley 4-1 Buckman beat St. Wendel 8-2, Avon 6-2 win over Ft. Ripley and Nisswa wins with a walk off homer in the 11th 6-5 over Freeport. Sunday: Foley eliminated St. Wendel 8-2. Buckman walks off St. Stephen in the bottom of the 10th 5-4 and advances to State. Nisswa holds off Avon to advance to state 2-0. Ft. Ripley downed Freeport 14-3 in the other elimination game. Friday will be the championship game between Buckman and Nisswa for top and #2 seed at state, game time will be at 7:30pm in Pierz. Three games then will be played on Saturday to decide the other two teams advancing on to the state tournament. All games are live on AM960 KLTF and fallsradio.com.
