NEWS

--One person was injured Friday morning around 7:55am in Morrison County. The westbound vehicle on Highway 27 near Lastrup when he went across the eastbound lane and struck the ditch causing it to vault over a driveway approach. The GMC Yukon continued toward Lastrup in the ditch and when the State Patrol arrived they found the driver had abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. An injured passenger, 54-year-old Dean Gangl of St. Stephen was in the vehicle and taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Authorities are still investigating who the driver of vehicle was.

--The Minnesota State Patrol reported one person was injured back on Tuesday morning at 7:55am on Highway 10 at Highway 115 at Randall in Morrison County. 34-year-old Adam Janey of Little Falls was eastbound crossing Highway to go onto 115 when the vehicle was struck by a northbound truck on Highway 10. Janey was taken to the hospital in Little Falls wth non life threatening injuries. The other driver 41-year-old Ryan Holter of Sartell was not injured.

--A Stearns County Grand jury has indicted a St. Cloud woman on 1st-degree premeditated murder in the shooting death of Janessa Lashay Harris. Thirty-three-year-old Angela Jones is also charged with 2nd-degree intentional murder in the case. Harris's body was found in an apartment unit in the 1400 block of 12th Avenue North on June 2nd, 2021. Court records indicate she was killed on or about May 31st. The Midwest Medical Examiners office conducted an autopsy on Harris and determined she died from a gunshot wound and that the manner of death was a homicide.

--St. Cloud Police have recovered a car stolen in Minneapolis on Thursday and arrested the driver. Thursday night at about 11pm officers located the vehicle in the 300 block of 32nd Avenue North, based on GPS tracking information given to them by the Minneapolis owner. The owner had reported the vehicle stolen in a car-jacking in Minneapolis earlier in the day. They attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated away.

--Army Col. Timothy Kemp relinquished command of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, to Army Lt. Col. Charles ‘Chip’ Rankin, a Little Falls native, in a ceremony back on Saturday at the Training and Community Center in Rosemount. Rankin comes to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team following a successful battalion command with 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry Regiment based in Mankato. Rankin was commissioned as an infantry officer in the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1998. He deployed to Iraq in 2006-2007, Afghanistan in 2011-2012, and the Horn of Africa in 2020-2021. In his civilian career, he is the Superintendent of Minnewaska Area Schools. After successfully completing his tour as commander from 2018-2021, outgoing commander Col. Timothy Kemp has assumed duties as the Chief of Staff for the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division. The Rosemount, Minnesota-based 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 34th Infantry Division consists of eight major subordinate commands. More than 5,200 Soldiers make up the brigade's combined arms, armor, cavalry, infantry, artillery, engineer, and brigade support battalions, constituting more than half of the Minnesota Army National Guard's total force structure.

--The Morrison County Commissioners meet on Thursday this week at the government center boardroom at 9am. The Sheriff's Office will be holding a public hearing along with reports from the social services, public health and the auditor's office on the agenda Thursday.

--The Little Falls City Council meets tonight 7:30pm at City Hall.

--Little Falls Community High School is starting a Food Drive Challenge today through December 17th. Little Falls DECA with the student council and other groups are accepting non perishable food and money at the high school use Door 1. There is also a link on the website for monetary donations. Thielen Meats in Little Falls is also accepting donations. The sporting events the next 2 weeks at the high school are taking $2 off every ticket sold if you bring a food item to the game. Cash donations accepted and split the pot during the game will be held at events during the food drive. Area businesses are competing with each other as well on who can bring in the most pounds of food and cash. The donations benfit families during the holiday season. The school will have a pep fest today to kick off the event. There will also be friendly competition between classrooms with the winner getting a trophy and movie day at the school.

--A brief power outage affected customers in Morrison and Benton counties Sunday afternoon. East Central Energy says they have restored power to around 300 customers in that area. The company says the outage began around 3pm and lasted about 30 minutes after a vehicle hit a guy wire from a utility pole.

--A reminder from Swanville schools that they will have a two hour late start today to do some teacher training. Buses will run two hours late. Students that are dropped off may enter the building at 9:50.

NATIONAL NEWS
--former Senator and Presidential Candidate Bob Dole has died. Dole was also a World War II Veteran. He was 98 years old.

COL FB= the College Bowl season was set Sunday the four teams going for the national title are Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and Cincinnati. The Gophers will take on West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl December 28th at 9:15pm in Phoenix, Arizona.

St. Nicholas Day History
Today- December 6th is the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. Saint Nicholas of Myra was known to bring gifts and blessings for those and then in secret leaving coins and other items for those who left shoes or stockings. The concept reportedly of St. Nicholas is used in sorts for today's Santa Claus and also Father Christmas in United Kingdom.
