NEWS
--A 52-year-old from Royalton suffered life threatening injuries when his vehicle left Highway 10 Saturday at 5:43pm at 68th Street in Bellevue Township of Morrison County. The impact of leaving the road caused the vehicle to over correct and eventually roll several times coming to a rest blocking the eastbound lane of Highway 10 causing massive delays into the evening. Alan Schumer was taken to Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities with life threatening injuries.

--A Little Falls man was injured Saturday at 8:22pm as a passenger of an ATV that crashed. 23-year-old Natasha Best of Clitherall was driving the ATV in a north highway ditch near Highway 210 in Otter Tail County when it lost control and rolled. Best was airlifted to a Fargo hospital reportedly with life threatening injuries. The passenger, 22-year-old Luke Jacobs of Little Falls sustained non life threatening injuries but refused hospitalization. The Minnesota State Patrol ruled that alcohol was a factor in the accident.

--A two vehicle accident Saturday just before 9pm sent two people from Freeport to the hospital. At 8:57pm, 31-year-old Tyler Hopper of Freeport was eastbound on Interstate 94 near Albany in Stearns County when his vehicle and another driven by 33-year-old Cheempee Reyes of Valley City, North Dakota collided. Hopper and 27-year-old Kaytland Welsch of Freeport were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries. Reyes, passenger and two young children in the other vehicle had no apparent injuries.

--The Minnesota Department of Transportation sent out travel advisories around the state again as road work continues on Highway 10 north of St. Cloud single lane causing delays, road work also single lane on Highway 238 from Avon to Albany, Highway 23 work continues east of Foley to Milaca, Highway 71 from Browerville to Eagle Bend and to Bertha-Hewitt area. Highway 371 has a closures and delays from Nisswa to Pequot Lakes and starting today more work on Highway 371 north edge of Baxter. --The Minnesota Department of Transportation is holding an in-person public meeting on the Highway 23 South Gap project. It is a four-lane expansion of Highway 23 between Paynesville and New London and is the final phase of the project. The South Gap will be completed in 2023. The North Gap between Richmond and Paynesville is currently under construction. Those two sections combined will cost $101.5-million and are being paid for through the Corridors of Commerce program. The public meeting will be tonight from 5:00-7:00pm at the Peace Lutheran Church in New London.

--A St. Cloud man has been sentenced to prison for shooting at another person in south St. Cloud. A Stearns County judge has sentenced 34-year-old Christopher Murry to 2 ½ years in prison for the shooting incident. Murry pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon in April. Court records show Murry is not allowed to have a gun from previous convictions.

--The Morrison County Commissioners meet Tuesday at 9am at the government center. They board will hear the sheriff's report, soil and water report, health and human services, land services and the board will vote on a resolution for Department of Veterans Affairs Operational Enhancement Grant. They will also do employee recognition for a water rescue and retirements in the county.

--The next Markets and Music on the Mississippi will be Thursday with markets at 3pm, music by Powerplant at 6pm at LeBourget Park.

--The Pierz City Council meets tonight 7pm at Pierz City Hall.

--A St. Cloud man has been sentenced for a downtown St. Cloud shooting last year that injured a teenager. 21-year-old Kevon Washington has been sentenced to three years in prison. He gets credit for having already served more than a year in jail. Washington pleaded guilty to 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon – causing substantial bodily harm in May. A St. Cloud police officer was patrolling the downtown area just before 1am on June 20, 2021, when the officer saw multiple fights in the H-Lot parking lot. That's when the officer saw a man raise his arm and fire gunshots toward the Centre Square Parking Ramp. Court records show police investigators used video surveillance in the area to determine Washington was the shooter. The 17-year-old victim was hit in the elbow and in the foot. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. A handful of other people were charged with rioting for the fight that broke out prior to the shooting.

--A second person has been arrested following Tuesday's shooting near Lake George. St. Cloud Police say 18-year-old Rakym Fraizer of St. Cloud was arrested and taken to the Stearns County Jail in connection to the shooting. He faces charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Carrying a Gun Without a Permit. Police arrested a 17-year-old from St. Cloud on charges of 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Gun Without a Permit, and a minor in possession of a firearm.

--A traffic stop for erratic driving ended up becoming a large drug bust. A complaint filed in Stearns County District Court alleges 46-year-old Gregory Britton of Rockford had nearly 254 grams of methamphetamine in his car, plastic baggies, a scale, and more than $1600 in cash. According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement tried to make a traffic stop near Clearwater on Tuesday. The driver was speeding, crossing over both the fog line and the center line of County Road 75. The officer tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver continued on, at one point, driving through a stop sign. Court records show Britton then stopped the car, exited, and yelled that he was going to jail. Authorities identified the driver as Britton. They say he smelled like marijuana and a search of the vehicle turned up the drugs and paraphernalia inside a lunchbox. Britton now faces one count of 1st-degree sale of cocaine or meth within a 90-day period.
