NEWS
--The Morrison County Sheriffs Office stated they had probable cause to arrest 35-year old Robert Devereaux of Little Falls for 2nd degree assault stemming from an incident on Wednesday. Around 3:50pm Thursday Devereaux was seen by a Little Falls Police Officer in northeast Little Falls driving a vehicle. When the officer attempted to stop Devereaux, he fled in the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit went through the east side of Little Falls and onto Mary Lane just off Hawthorn Road in Little Falls Township. Devereaux then left his vehicle and ran into the woods. A perimeter was set up to continue the search with the help from the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, Morrison County K-9 and SWAT teams. Robert Devereaux was located inside the Little Falls Wal Mart around 8:20pm where he was taken into custody without incident. During the incident there were no injuries to Devereaux, law enforcement or any members of the public. The Morrison County Sheriffs Office would like to thank the public and media for their assistance. Sheriff Larsen would like to remind citizens you can sign up to receive these types of messages through Everbridge. --St. Joseph officially has a new chief of police. Interim Chief Dwight Pfannenstein and City Administrator Judy Weyrens said they finalized the terms and conditions of his contract Thursday afternoon. He is the new police chief effective immediately. The city council voted to offer Pfannenstein the job during their meeting on Monday night, on the condition he end his campaign for Stearns County Sheriff. It is too late to remove Pfannenstein's name from the ballot for the August 14th primary but he will no longer actively be seeking that position. In theory, Stearns county residents could still vote for him. Three other men are also on the ballot for Stearns County Sheriff, Bob Dickhaus, Dave Bentrud, and Steve Soyka. The top two vote getters in the August primary move on to the general election. Pfannenstein has been serving as the interim chief since former chief Joel Klein was placed on administrative leave back in April. Klein resigned from his position earlier this month.

This is the third time that the facility in Aitkin has been part of an investigation of neglect. In the past the staff members involved were terminated. There is no word yet on what will come from the recent findings of this investigation.

--A fire Thursday morning led to an evacuation of residents at a structure on North 7th Street in Brainerd. Around 3:00am firefighters were called to the building that contained eight apartment units. The fire was in the living room of one of the units and started in a couch. The fire was put out but smoke seeped through the walls so all the units were evacuated as a precaution until the fire was put out. The site was ventilated. No injuries as the residents were able to return to their apartments by 4:45am except for the two where the fire happened. That unit sustained extensive smoke and water damage. Those two will have to stay with others until the unit is repaired.
