--Today is Columbus Day, it is still a federal holiday meaning that many federal offices, some state, county and city offices may be closed today. In previous years the holiday has become a floating holiday for many offices to use on the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve to give more time for family on those days. Most schools are in session today but some public libraries, banks, financial institutions may be closed. U.S. Post Office will not have regular mail delivery today but priority and 1 day mail service is running and parcel delivery is also running from other parcel delivery companies. This is a good day to call ahead before heading out to government offices and other businesses to make sure they are open on Columbus Day 2021. Other states have recently announced that the name and reasons behind the holiday be changed so some are asking for a day of service or togetherness on this day in history.
