–A Florida man arrested in connection with several pipe bombs mailed across the country has a criminal record in Minnesota. Cesar Altieri Sayoc was living in Plymouth in 1995 when the Hennepin County attorney’s office charged him with theft by swindle over $5,000 and fifth-degree possession of crack cocaine, according to a court record. It appears a warrant was issued for him, likely for failure to appear in court. In 2005, there was activity in the case again, and Sayoc, now 56, posted bail of $5,000. A few days later, prosecutors dismissed the charges because the drugs were never taken to the city chemist for testing and the substance was destroyed in 1997. Federal authorities took Sayoc into custody Friday in connection with the mail-bomb scare that earlier widened to 12 suspicious packages sent to prominent Democrats from coast to coast. The head of the FBI says the suspect arrested in the mail bombs sent to prominent Democrats was found in part using fingerprint evidence and possible DNA.
