NEWS
--Little Falls City Administrator Jon Radermacher will be the guest tomorrow at 9am on Up Front on AM960 KLTF. Jon will discuss the vote coming up in the city for a half-cent sales tax increase. Questions can be called in at (320) 632-2306 at 9:30am.

--Today is Columbus Day. A Federal Holiday but in recent years has lost the luster of other holidays. Some government offices are closed today, though some like the Government Center are open and use this day as floating holiday for the day after Thanksgiving. There is no regular mail delivery today, however special delivery and package parcel delivery service is going on today. Some banks, libraries and other businesses may be closed today for Columbus Day while others could be open. It is best to call ahead to make sure today.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with Royalton Police Department, Royalton Fire and Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance and the Royalton School District will be conducting an Active Shooter scenario-based training today (October 8th) from 7:00am-1:00pm at the Royalton High School. There is no school for Royalton students today. The Sheriff's Office want to remind the public that there will be a heavy presence of law enforcement, fire personnel and emergency services at the high school. They are asking the public to refrain from coming to the high school during this time frame.

--On Wednesday evening the Little Falls Fire Department and Minnesota Power responded to several incidents of power lines and trees down. From around 6:00pm until 9:00pm the Little Falls Fire Department helped secure a safe area in the 800 block of 12th Street SW for a powerline down, they responded to a powerpole snapped on 165th Street in Pike Creek Township, power lines down on 6th Street NE and a tree down on Golf Road. There were no reported injuries. There were peak wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour in Central Minnesota on Wednesday evening.

--A bicyclist was killed Thursday on Highway 10 in Wadena County when the bike was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. Authorities stated that the biker was a 39-year-old from Detroit Lakes but would not release the name pending notificiation to family members. No one in the pickup was injured. It happened around 11pm Thursday. This was the second fatal accident in Wadena County as an accident Wednesday north of Blufton killed a man who was ejected from his vehicle after colliding with a semi-truck. The man was from Montana.

--There is a meet the candidates event tonight at 7pm at the Royalton High School sponsored by Royalton Lions Club, Federation of Teachers and Royalton Community Education. Each candidate in attendance will be given time to speak on why they are running for the office/seat and take questions from the Audience. Royalton Mayor, City Council, School Board State Representative, County Auditor/Tresaurer and others who show at the event tonight at 7pm.

--The Morrison County Commissioners meet Tuesday morning at 9am at the city hall council chambers in Little Falls. They will adopt a proclamation for Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, and another for National 4H Week, hear from social services and public health, land services and public works.

--Another political debate will be held tonight, October 8th at 6:30pm at Maddens on Gull Lake in Brainerd for the two candidates vying for the District 8 U.S. Congressional seat between Joe Radinovich and Pete Stauber. The doors open at 5:30pm.

--Two 80-year-olds were injured Sunday afternoon after 2:00pm, on Highway 27 east of Pierz when their vehicle struck the ditch. James Wackler of Howard Lake and his passenger, Carolyn Wackler were both treated at the Onamia Hospital for injuries.

--A reported domestic assault call involving two motorists led to the arrest of both the caller and driver after police found drugs, cash and drug paraphernalia early this week. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported domestic assault on I-94 between Albany and Freeport. The caller, identified as 35-year-old Joanna Cross said the man driving the car, 39-year-old Kristopher Kent of Fargo, North Dakota had tried to remove her from the vehicle at knife-point. After getting off I-94, authorities made contact with the pair. Police could not establish an assault took place. However, officers learned Cross had an active, extraditable warrant out of North Dakota for possession of narcotic equipment. Deputies looked through the bag she had in the car, finding several items of drug paraphernalia inside. A further search of the vehicle which authorities say belonged to Kent revealed 61.9 grams of methamphetamine, 2.5 grams of heroin, 14 grams of marijuana and $4,100 in cash. Both Cross and Kent were arrested on 1st degree possession charges.

--This week is Fire Prevention Week across the nation. A reminder to check on smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If you burn with wood, make sure chimneys are clear of debris. More tips on fire prevention can be found at the fire prevention website or contact your local fire hall. There was an open house yesterday in Upsala and this Saturday an open house at the Royalton Fire Hall.

NATIONAL NEWS
--The U.S. Senate voted to make Brett Kavanaugh the next Supreme Court Justice. The Vote was 50-48. Justice Kavanaugh was sworn in at a private ceremony at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice John Roberts. He replaced retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.

HS FB= Pierz wins big, Royalton wins in overtime to both go to 6-0. Upsala Swanville wins homecoming, Foley beat Little Falls.
ST. J= longtime St. John's football coach, John Gagliardi died at 91.
