NEWS
--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday at approximately 7:40pm, they responded to the area of Walmart to assist the Little Falls Police Department with a theft complaint. While enroute, deputies learned that the subject left in a vehicle. A Morrison County Deputy located the vehicle on 160th Avenue, east of Little Falls and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled from the deputy, driving through yards and at one point, hit the deputy’s squad car. The suspect then fled on foot and was later located with the use of the Sheriff’s K-9. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 36-year old Craig Zuleger of St. Cloud, was taken into custody. He is being held in Morrison County Jail pending formal charges. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Little Falls Police Department, Motley Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol.

--Another night of unrest in Minneapolis and the Metro area. Governor Tim Walz declared a Peacetime Emergency in the City of Minneapolis and mobilized the Minnesota National Guard. Pledging full state support, the Governor also directed approximately 150 Minnesota State Patrol troopers to provide support to mitigate unrest. Citing unlawful and dangerous looting and violence in downtown Minneapolis, the Governor has mobilized the National Guard, including a military police unit, in response to a request from the City of Minneapolis. The Minnesota State Patrol has mobilized approximately 150 troopers—including its Mobile Field Force, Special Response Team, and all available metro area state troopers—in response to rioting in Minneapolis. Troopers will assist Minneapolis Police in dispersing crowds, preventing looting, and making arrests for any violations of law. The unrest started from a social media post stating that a black male was involved in a homicide and was shot outside Nicollet Mall. Police stated that he man had shot and killed himself inside a vehicle but was a suspect in a homicide. Officers were not involved in any deadly force despite a lot of rumors. Shortly thereafter fires, looting and destruction began and did not stop last night even after Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey put a curfew in place that was to last until 6am this morning with likely to be extended.

--Tomorrow is the deadline to file for the CARES funding in the counties from the federal government given to the state and up to $5,000 grants for small businesses to pay for expenses needed from being closed March through May or June from Stay at Home orders. Morrison County and Community Development of Little Falls are accepting those applications through Friday. Todd, Stearns and Benton Counties are also accepting applications from businesses for the grant money up to $5,000 through Friday so contact your county officials. --The numbers of the Minnesota Department of Health on Wednesday are 542 new cases of COVID-19 and there were 14 newly reported deaths linked to the virus. There were 2 new cases of COVID-19 in Morrison County Wednesday making 110 total cases, there were 94 cases back on August 13th making around 16 cases in last 2 weeks.

--The City of Pierz announced they will be spraying for mosquitos tonight. A safety sheet with the data on the spray is on the city of Pierz website. This is in preparations for the people sitting outside for the Pierz Oktoberfest Parade Sunday at noon.

--The Farmers' Almanac is out with the extended forecast for the upcoming winter. The overall look for this coming winter is cold and snowy conditions with above normal snowfall for Minnesota.

--Governor Tim Walz Wednesday signed orders that formalize Minnesota Department of Health guidance regarding the total classroom occupancy allowed in higher education settings and allow cooperatives to waive in person meeting requirements. The Executive Order continues to require higher education institutions to create and implement a plan to conduct classes and activities in a manner that adheres to Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Standards and MDH and CDC Guidelines related to COVID-19. The second order is in keeping with public health guidance encouraging Minnesotans to avoid large gatherings. Both Executive Orders have been approved by the Executive Council in working with the education process.

--A Big Lake man suspected of killing his mother now faces a first-degree murder charge. 20-year old Eric Jordahl was charged in July with two counts of second-degree murder in Sherburne County District Court. A Sherburne County grand jury indicted Jordahl, charging him with an additional count: premeditated first-degree murder. according to a Monday afternoon press release from Sherburne County. The victim, 62-year old Rose Johnson was a Big Lake City Council member. Jordahl told police that he punched his mother repeatedly, stabbed her multiple times and bit her, according to previously released court records. Jordahl appeared in court Monday regarding the indictment where a judge increased Jordahl’s bail to $3 million without conditions or $2 million with several conditions, including GPS monitoring. Next court date is Sept. 23rd.

--The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says asymptomatic people no longer need to get tested for the novel coronavirus, a quiet change the federal agency recently made to its online guidelines regarding COVID-19. The revised guidelines, posted on Monday, say individuals who have been in close contact with an infected person, typically meaning within six feet and for at least 15 minutes, “do not necessarily need a test” if they do not have symptoms. However, the CDC did state that there are exceptions, including “vulnerable” individuals or healthcare professionals where state or local public health officials may advise testing for the virus.

--Hurricane Laura was a category 4 storm earlier yesterday but last night after making landfall downgraded to a category 3 still a very powerful Hurricane over Texas and Louisiana.
