--On Tuesday a Life Saving Event Award was presented to Carrie Herman for her lifesaving actions that took place on January 5th. Sgt. Herman responded to ‘G’ block in the Morrison County Jail, where she ultimately made contact with an inmate, who was standing on the upstairs railing and making comments that he was going to jump. Herman made entry into ‘G’ block and immediately started a dialogue with him. While advancing up the stairwell, she continued to communicate to the inmate while displaying empathy and compassion. Once Herman got to the top of the stairwell, she paused briefly and analyzed the situation before continuing towards him. Herman slowly closed the gap between herself and the inmate and extended her arm towards him, indicating that she was there to help. The inmate came down off the railing and was eventually escorted downstairs to the booking room. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen stated, “Carrie, I want to thank you for doing a great job and for handling yourself in a professional manner. You stayed calm and confident and you relied on your training. This could have easily turned into a disaster and/or a death in our jail, but you prevented that from happening. You ultimately saved this inmate’s life and for that I’m grateful. For your outstanding work you are deserving of recognition as the finest my office has to offer.

Randy Joseph Boothe was charged with one felony count of third-degree assault, one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation, one gross misdemeanor count of interference with a 911 call and two misdemeanor counts of domestic assault.
