NEWS
--Camp Ripley has issued the following notice. The surrounding communities should be aware that throughout the next several weeks there will be training on Camp Ripley that the public may be able to hear during both the day and night. Additionally there may be the opportunity to see illumination flares above Camp Ripley while this training takes place. Camp Ripley thanks you for your support during this required training period which will help the men and women of our Armed Forces meet federal, state and community mission readiness goals.

--An Albany man has died in a farm accident. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office received a call around 10:15am Tuesday about a missing man on a farm in St. Martin Township. The caller said they could not find their son and believed he may have fallen into a grain bin. The St. Martin fire department worked on the bin, which was three-quarters full of corn. They eventually found the victim, 35-year old Brandon Schaefer of Albany, inside the bin. The preliminary investigation revealed Schaefer was working in the grain bin to loosen up the frozen corn, he fell and was buried. He was taken to the Paynesville where he was later pronounced dead.

--Minnesota's Seventh Judicial District will be looking for two new Stearns County judges in the coming months. The Commission on Judicial Selection announced the retirements of Judge Frank Kundrat and Judge John Scherer. Both of the open seats will be chambered in St. Cloud. Applications are due on February 18th and interviews are tentatively scheduled to begin on March 9th.

--Officials are urging drivers to use caution if heading out onto frozen lakes and rivers. The reminder comes after a pickup went through the ice on Lake Hanska in Brown County in south-central Minnesota on Monday. With the recent warm temperatures and fog and haze causing poor visibilities on the ice, conditions could cause drivers not to see soft or open water areas which make the ice more hazardous. With recent ice fishing events on area lakes, ICE Fest next weekend and other tournaments in February, many lakes and rivers are showing enough ice for these events but a reminder that some areas could have soft spots or open water. Please use caution on the water.

--The Minnesota Department of Public Safety announced that nearly 400 law enforcement agencies, Police officers, Sheriff's deputies and State Troopers will be out in force this weekend watching for those driving at high rate of speed, seat belt violations but mostly impaired drivings Sunday into Monday following the Super Bowl football game. Many heading or leaving big game parties are to be advised that law enforcement will be watching for those drinking and driving. Please plan ahead and don't drink and drive. Sgt. Neil Dickenson of the Minnesota State Patrol will be on KLTF Party Line today at 10:05am to answer questions about what is happening with the State Patrol. You may call the program at 320-632-2306. --The Little Falls Carnegie Library on Friday will be hosting a presentation by Lee Dean and Rick Nelson, editors of The Great Minnesota Cookie Book. They will talk about how they compiled the recipes in the book, which was published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2018. Eighty delicious, imaginative recipes from an annual cookie contest. The event is 3:30-4:30pm on Friday, there is no charge but they ask to RSVP for seating at 632-9676.

--Little Falls City Council meets Monday 7:30pm at City Hall.

--Due to a fiber cut somewhere in the Little Falls area Morrison County Government Center does not have connection to State of Minnesota which provides internet connection to all departments. Currently they are unable to process most transactions. They will issue a release when it's back up and running.

--The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is holding a legislative update today from noon-1:30pm at Little Falls City Hall. Both Senate Majority Leader, District 9 State Senator Paul Gazelka and District 9B State Representative Ron Kresha will be on hand to preview the 2020 legislative session and hear from constituents on items of interest or concern for this legislative session.

--The Twin Cities Apprehension Team is asking for help in locating Andrew Lee Weiland, a wanted felony fugitive and convicted predatory offender who is believed to be in the Brainerd Area. Weiland has six active warrants in the Crow Wing County area which include three felony charges for a predatory offender knowingly committing acts or failing to fulfill registration requirements, felony controlled substance charges and driving after cancellation to public safety. Weiland is approximately 5’10, weighs about 200 pounds and has a tattoo on his neck. He also might be traveling with a white female who could appear to be in her mid 30’s. Although Weiland has access to several different vehicles, he may currently be driving or riding in an older black Dodge Durango. The Twin Cities Apprehension Team is offering a $2,500 reward for a confidential tip that leads to Weilands whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to call (612) 254-7400.

--The Upsala Upstage Players present Murder May I this weekend at the at Upsala High School Auditorium. Shows Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. Tickets sold at the door.

NBA= The NBA Trade Deadline is next week and numerous sports sources are saying that the Timberwolves may be looking to deal some big name talent. Tops of the list that the Wolves have interest in trading Robert Covington for a first round pick in the NBA Draft this year. There are even some reports from Twin Cities media that their big name player Karl Anthony Towns could also be on the move before the end of the next week if the Wolves woes continue.
