NEWS
--Superintendent of Pierz Schools George Weber appeared on Little Falls Radio Wednesday morning and spoke about the work happening this summer and later this fall. The roof project was already planned for the summer even before referendum vote passed earlier this spring. Another big thing is the renovation of the kitchen which has been the same kitchen facility since the high school was built back in the 1960s. They are also working on moving the power line and utilities that sits between Pioneer Elementary and the High School to become underground utilities of electricity to the school, a safer option. More work is planned in the fall around October when some parking and excavating work will begin. Superintendent George Weber will update us as that date gets closer. Weber wants to invite everyone to the school for the Community Theater production of Oklahoma August 10th and 11th at 7:00pm and Sunday August 12th at 4:00pm at the Performing Arts Center in Pierz.

--Morrison County 4H Coordinator Becky Moe is inviting the public to their 4H Food Revue- demonstration and clothing achievement day on July 26th at the Morrison County Fairgrounds. Food Revue is youth that bring in a menu and table setting, one food item from the menu, where they are judged on nutritional values, display and other items from their demonstration. Demonstration and Clothing achievement is showing off their items, animals and action presentations. The whole day is planned on July 26th starting at 9:00am. It is free and open to the public to view what Morrison County 4H has been doing.

--The 69-year old Backus woman, who was seriously injured July 11th in a two vehicle crash with a semitrailer on Highway 371 near Koering Road in Fort Ripley Township, died as a result of complications from multiple blunt force injuries suffered in the crash. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed Colleen Marie Epeneter died Saturday at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

--A Pine River man was injured when the SUV in which he was a passenger struck a deer around 10:15pm Monday on Highway 371 at Kappel Road in Fort Ripley Township. 29-year old Justin J. Bauer of New Ulm, was driving south on Highway 371 and hit a deer in the road. Bauer and his passenger 62-year old Gerald J. Losinski of New Ulm were both wearing their seat belts. Neither of them were injured. Another passenger, 27-year old Joseph T. Rewitzer of Pine River, was transported to a Brainerd hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

--A man missing from Georgia was located over the weekend after Crow Wing County Sheriff's deputies responded to a suspicious person call. The sheriff's office received a call of a suspicious man walking to a home on Country Lane, north of Brainerd, asking about an air compressor. A deputy made contact and learned the man was a missing person from Georgia. He made contact with family members and arranged for them to make contact with their son. The man was identified as 20-year old Curtis Jay "CJ" Elliott. Elliott was missing for 10 days before he was located in Crow Wing County.

--A Stearns County Deputy on patrol located a motor vehicle crash on in Wakefield Township around 4:00pm Tuesday. Upon investigation it was determined that 16-year old Jonah Olson of Cold Spring, was stopped on county road 2 turning east when he was struck from behind by 55-year old Emily Schmidt of Eden Valley. Schmidt had been stopped behind Olson waiting for him to turn when she was struck from behind by 20-year old Michael Vossen of Watkins. Vossen and Schmidt had minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital.

--Morrison County Highway 11 (Bison Road) will be closed starting this Sunday for road construction. Motorists will find a detour around County State Aid Highway 11 between 180th Street and 230th Street while road work is being done. Motorists should plan their own alternate route or plan for additional time for travel in order to follow the signed detour. For more information call 632-0121.

--The Minnesota State Fair announced Wednesday a number of new attractions for “The Great Minnesota Get Together” starting on August 23rd through September 3rd. The new attractions includes a number of new rides in the kidway and midway, new foods and many more items to enhance a new audience to the Minnesota State Fair east of St. Paul. While the state fair is getting so is the number of county fairs including the Crow Wing County Fair July 31st through August 4th in Brainerd, fair guides are available at Little Falls Radio to pick up during our regular business hours. --A 31-year old Brainerd man faces felony charges after assaulting a woman by the Mississippi River Landing on Evergreen Avenue in Brainerd. Dustin Richard Ahlstrom was charged with felony 3rd degree assault to cause bodily harm, felony domestic assault by strangulation and gross misdemeanor of interrupting with an emergency call. The woman told police that she was homeless and living in a tent down by the river landing where the assault occurred. The woman showed police multiple bruises around her face, left ear, neck and arms. She had a laceration above her right eye requiring sutures. The woman stated Ahlstrom has strangled her in the past but this the worst of the situations.

--A motorcycle and classic car run for the local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans of Morrison County will be Saturday starting at the West Side Bar and then traveling to Sauk Centre, Flensburg and back to the Little Falls for a silent auction, food and prizes. A suggested donation of ten dollars is being asked for. All proceeds of the event throughout the day goes to help the Disabled American Veterans in Morrison County. The chapter also helps those in Todd County as they do not an active chapter of the DAV. For more information contact William Hollerman at 360-0803. WNBA= Sylvia Fowles scored 30 points as the Lynx routed Indiana Wednesday at Target Center 89-65. Before the game it was announced that Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles and Siemone Augustus were named as Western Conference All-Stars at the WNBA All Star Game on Saturday July 28th at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
MLB= Twins off until Friday when they are at Kansas City.
