NEWS
--Cass County sheriff's officials say one person has died after being struck by gunfire at an outdoor house party. Authorities say a drive-by shooting happened at a residence in Cass Lake shortly before 3am Monday. Deputies arrived to find a 34-year old local man who had been hit by gunfire while he was in a yard at the party. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Cass Lake Indian Services Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy. Cass County stated that the investigating is still ongoing.

--Authorities say a Richmond teenager is dead after crashing her car last week. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says they were called to a crash on County Road 9 and 260th Street in Munson Township at around 1pm last Thursday. Deputies say the driver, 16-year old Kailey James, was heading north on County Road 9 when she left the roadway on the curve and struck a utility pole. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.

--A man formerly of Grey Eagle was booked into the Stearns County Jail Saturday on an outstanding warrant. 20-year old William Boyes is charged with criminal sexual conduct involving a girl who was 15-years old at the time. The arrest warrant was issued when Boyes failed to appear for a hearing earlier this summer. The sexual assaults allegedly took place multiple times at a home in Stearns County during the summer and fall of 2019. The Stearns County Jail roster lists Boyes' current address is in Amarillo, Texas. He's charged with two felony counts of 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct and five gross misdemeanor charges of 5th degree criminal sexual conduct.

--One person was hurt in a rollover crash in St. Joseph Township over the weekend. The incident happened on County Road 138 on Saturday morning. Shortly after 7am, the sheriff's office says the car left the road, rolled multiple times, and came to a stop in the ditch. Following an investigation, the sheriff's office learned the driver, 18-year-old Brenden Steineman of Paynesville, had been taken to the hospital by a private party for treatment of minor injuries.

--The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office and their law enforcement partners dealt Monday with numerous acts of criminal behavior and arrests were necessary to aid in public safety. Public roads were blocked, and spikes were placed in the roadways with the sole purpose to damage tires and property of anyone travelling on the roadway. Private property was blocked with the apparent intent to inconvenience the residents of Aitkin County. Three individuals locked themselves down using devices known as “sleeping dragons.” These individuals went a step further than merely locking themselves down; they had filled the sleeping dragons with feces. Truly an unhealthy and unsanitary act meant to harass those tasked with extrication. Deputies also recovered drugs from one of the encounters. Six people were arrested, 2 from California, 1 each from Wisconsin, Iowa, Massachusetts and Minneaota. The Northern Lights Task Force is comprised of numerous law enforcement agencies throughout northern Minnesota. This task force is strongly supported by State agencies along with fire and EMS agencies within each county. The mission statement for the task force is: “To provide a safe environment that protects life, property, and free speech through a respectful approach by well trained, disciplined peace officers relating to the lawful activities conducted by those who wish to exercise their First Amendment rights in Minnesota. “ All were still awaiting their first court appearances which were expected yesterday or today.

--The Swanville Mid-Summer Carnival is Friday through Sunday. Events Friday include chicken barbeque at 5pm, midway at 6pm and live music that night. Saturday midway opens at 3pm with chicken and bingo and more live music afternoon and evening, Sunday parade at 11:30am, midway and events starts at noon, with music all afternoon and evening in Swanville for the 58th Mid-Summer Carnival.

--Holdingford Daze is Friday and Saturday. Friday there is a sidewalk bake sale and car show starting after 4pm. Saturday is a 5k run, tractor pull, petting zoo, bean bag toss tournament, then grand parade begins at 7pm Saturday with street dance and fireworks at the end of the night. Other events include the RiverFest in Monticello and the Cass County Fair in Pillager this weekend.

--Two people were hurt Friday at 7:30pm in Princeton Township of Mille Lacs County. 38-year-old Matthew Ariola of Columbus, MN towing a 5th wheel camper and a trailer with a boat was northbound on Hwy 169 near Rum River Drive N when it lost control and started to spin. The camper and trailer disconnected from the truck and all 3 spun and rolled going off road to the right and coming to rest on the shoulder and in the ditch. The truck started on fire as the driver and his 37-year-old passenger from Minneapolis were able to get out with non-life threatening injuries and treated in Princeton.

--The Upstage Players will present its summer community theatre production, “Crazy for You,” July 16th through the 19th in Upsala. “Crazy for You” is the classic tale of a boy, a girl, and a theater in need of salvation. Show times are Friday, July 16, Saturday, July 17, and Monday, July 19 at 7pm and Sunday, July 18 at 2pm. Tickets are available at the door for $10 (adult) and $8 (child/senior citizens) at the Upsala High School Auditorium.

--The Little Falls Community School District wanted to thank the Little Falls Walmart who donated $4,000 to Little Falls Schools through their Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program. It was reported the program is done when the store volunteers for organizations, they take a headcount of volunteers and number of hours volunteered, and based on that criteria, Walmart issues a check to that organization. From the Day of Caring in May a $4000 grant for Little Falls Community Schools was donated which was the largest grant they have received in the six years that the store has participated.

--United Steelworkers giving to the community FREE ice cream cones today delivered to your vehicle in front of Lindy Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe from 4pm today until gone.

NHL= Tampa Bay beat Montreal 1-0 to win the Stanley Cup 4 to 1.
LYNX= Lynx win 85-79 last night over Dallas. Lynx are 10-7.
