--The art and history of tattoo is the Morrison County Historical Society’s theme for 2019. In creating their exhibit, The Story Behind the Tat: Tattoo Art in Central Minnesota, the organization has sought out some of the personal reasons people get tattoos. The exhibit reveals some of these reasons, including using tattoo for self-identity and healing. Along with these uses, tattoo is also frequently used to honor loved ones, ancestors, or heritage. To explore these ideas further, the Morrison County Historical Society is hosting an informal discussion event called “Tattoo as a Call to Ancestors: A Discussion on the History & Purposes of Tattoo” on July 10th. The event will begin with the viewing of the Tattoo episode of Netflix Explained and those gathered will be guided into conversation through open-ended questions based on the program. Participants need not have a tattoo in order to attend. The event will take place at The Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum in Little Falls from 7-8:30pm. There is no cost to attend, but RSVPs are requested by July 9. Please call 320-632-4007 to make reservations.
