NEWS
--Following the deadline for filing for state and federal offices there will be a stacked primary on August 14th for DFL and Republican Candidates in some highly focused on races. For U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Amy Klobuchar, 5 DFL candidates (including Klobuchar) and 4 Republicans have filed. In the U.S. Senate special election for the seat currently held by Senator Tina Smith, who was appointed by Governor Dayton after resignation of Senator Al Franken, 6 (including Smith) have filed from the DFL party and 3 from the Republican party. In the house seats, District 1 there are 4 Republicans, 2 Democrats running. District 2 has Jason Lewis for GOP and Angie Craig of DFL, District 3- Erik Paulsen for GOP and 2 for the DFL, District 4- Greg Ryan for GOP and 3 for DFL including incumbent Betty McCollum. In District 5- Congressman Keith Ellison announced he is running for Attorney General so a slough of candidates filed late Tuesday making 8 DFL candidates and 3 from GOP for that district. In District 6- Tom Emmer running for reelection, 2 other GOP candidates filed and for the DFL Ian Todd. Two filed for the GOP in District 7 with incumbent Collin Peterson running for reelection. In District 8 with Congressman Rick Nolan not running, 2 filed for GOP and 5 for the DFL. In State House 9B- Ron Kresha for Republican, Stephen Browning for DFL. For Governor there are 3 GOP candidates that filed and 5 that filed for the DFL, two for Secretary of State, three for State Auditor (2 DFL), and nine have filed for the Attorney General position. This adds up to a busy August 14th primary this year.

--The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Race will have a primary on August 14th as three have filed for the position. Scott Goddard of Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Eric Klang, current Pequot Lakes police chief and Pat Pickar of the sheriff's office filed for sheriff.

--In Morrison County several races this November will be running unchallenged. Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen is seeking reelection and was the only person to file. Also Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf, County Recorder Eileen Holtberg, County Commissioner in District 4 Mike Wilson and County Commissioner District 5 Greg Blaine are running unopposed. In the Soil and Water Supervisor District 4 Dale Scholl and John Ulrick filed for the same seat. On the Morrison County Soil and Water Supervisor District 2 Tom Brutscher was the lone filing and Scott Saehr the only name on the ballot in Soil and Water Supervisor District 3.

--Brainerd firefighters battled a house fire in Barrows Tuesday around 4:50pm on Brandon Way. Within a half hour of arriving the structure collapsed inward destroying the home that was rented by Yvonne Freeburg and her family. Firefighters stated the fire started in the back porch, spread to the attic which caused the roof to cave into the home. An exact cause is under investigation with the State Fire Marshal aiding. Little Falls firefighters were called in to assist with the blaze along with police and first responders. No injuries, and two dogs were saved from the burning house. Brainerd firefighters were also called early Tuesday morning around 4:50am to Industrial Park Road in Brainerd for a garbage fire. The trailer which the garbage was in was smoldering when they arrived and quickly taken care of. No injuries were reported.

--A cleanup day is scheduled for the Townships of Platte, Pulaski and Richardson Township on Saturday from 8:30-10:30am at the Pulaski Town Hall. For more information contact Bonnie at 277-3290.

--The 2 year old boy pulled from Rush Lake in Crosslake on May 28th has died. The Sheriff's office reported that Sawyer Howe died June 2nd in Minneapolis. His death has been ruled accidental drowning.

–A major fish story from Lake Mille Lacs. 23-year old Connor Lingwall of Blaine Sunday caught a 55 inch, 43 pound muskie which took him nearly a half hour to bring in. Minnesota's official catch and release state record for muskellunge is 56 7/8 inches caught by Andrew Slette, of Hawley on Pelican Lake in 2016 but this was pretty close. Due to state regulations he did release the fish after taking pictures.

--A Stearns County judge has sentenced a St. Cloud man to seven and a half years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl over multiple years. 52-year old, Jerrold Searcy earlier pleaded guilty to 2nd degree criminal sexual conduct including with someone under 16-years old, multiple acts and a significant relationship. The girl told investigators the abuse started when she was just seven-years old and happened multiple times until she was about 13-years old. According to court records, Searcy would perform sex acts on the girl and make her perform them on him. Searcy must register as a predatory offender and be on probation for 10 years after being released from prison.

--A 19-year old Waite Park man is facing charges for reportedly choking a pregnant woman and kneeing her in the stomach. Juan De Dios Torres-Rivera was charged Tuesday with one count of felony domestic assault by strangulation, two counts of felony domestic assault and one count of third degree misdemeanor assault for causing fear in a pregnant woman or causing harm to an unborn child. Officers responded to the incident in Waite Park around 6:00pm Sunday. The maximum sentence for domestic assault by strangulation and felony domestic assault is five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine. The maximum sentence for the misdemeanor assault charge is 90 days imprisonment and/or a $1,000 fine.

--The first Rock Roll and Stroll classic car show event is tonight from 5-8pm in Pierz with classic cars, poker walk, food and more.

TWINS= White Sox score 4 in the 6th to beat the Twins Wednesday night 5-2 at Target Field. Twins wrap up the series today against Chicago with an 11:30am pregame on Q92 WYRQ.
LF BAB= Alexandria eliminated Little Falls from the playoffs Wednesday in the section finals 4-1 to advance to state.
PIERZ BAB= Pierz vs. St. Cloud Cathedral for the Section 6AA Championship today at 5pm from St. Cloud. If Pierz wins there would be a second game to follow to get to the state tournament. Hear the action for the Pioneers today at 5pm on FM94 KFML.
NBA= Golden State wins game 3 of the NBA Finals 110-102 over Cleveland last night. Warriors could wrap it up Friday night.
NHL= Washington tries to win the Stanley Cup tonight against Las Vegas, as Capitols lead the series 3-1.
WNBA= Lynx are in Washington today for a 3:00pm game.
