Two Rivers= Joe Bartkowicz got 83 write in votes to defeat the incumbent Richard Zabinski 77 votes for Supervisor. Of the write ins for Treasurer Jayson Strusz had the most with 66 votes.

OTHER NEWS
--A teenager Tuesday avoided injury when her vehicle was struck by an oncoming train in Pillager. 19-year old Christina Oppegard of Browerville was at the train tracks around 11:40am at 131st Street in Pillager where her vehicle got stuck on the tracks and she could not get it off. The Cass County Sheriff's Office responded but before arriving the vehicle was struck by an oncoming BNSF train. Oppegard was not in the vehicle and not injured. No one on train was injured.

--Sauk Rapids appointed a new city council member during Monday night's meeting. The four current council members voted to approve the appointment of Dottie Seamans to fill the vacant seat, which was created when Steve Heinen was elected to the Benton County Board of Commissioners in November. Seamans has served on the Sauk Rapids-Rice School Board and a number of city committees.

--The National Commander of the American Legion stopped in Brainerd on Tuesday for breakfast. Commander Brett Reistad is the commander for the Legion which is celebrating 100 years of existence in 2019. Commander Reistad said he is focused on working to prevent Veteran suicides and Agent Orange protections. His mission is to continue to remember the traditions that started the American Legion back in 1919 after World War I in addition to the concerns of today with use of communications and technology.

--A 39-year-old Elk River man was injured Friday night around 11:20pm when the snowmobile he was operating crashed into a tree in a wooded area near Beaver Creek Road in Deerwood. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported Jake L. Rafferty suffered a leg injury and was transported off the snowmobile trail in the woods by the Deerwood Fire Department and taken to the Crosby hospital.

--The State Patrol will have extra enforcement out this weekend during the St. Patrick's Day festivities. Don't drink and drive.

--The Mille Lacs County deputy who discharged his firearm during an incident in Isle last Thursday has been identified. Deputy Brandon Armstrong has been in law enforcement for four years, including the last three with the Mille Lacs County Sherriff’s office. In addition, the deceased individual has been identified by the Midwest Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Ricky Pendegayosh died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the medical examiner. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the officer involved shooting. When the BCA’s investigation is completed, the BCA will turn its case file over to the Mille Lacs County Attorney’s Office for review.

--At 4:17am Wednesday the Stearns County Sheriffs Office received multiple calls about a barn on fire and fully engulfed. Authorities responded to the address of the barn fire at 41828 County Road 3 in Brockway Township a few miles east of Holdingford. According to Sheriff Steve Soyka, property owner, 59-year old Steven Alan Rosty of Holdingford, was unaware his barn was on fire and stated only cattle and vehicles were stored in the barn. The cattle were able to exit the barn on their own. The barn was a complete loss along with a skid steer and snowmobiles. The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.

--A Sherburne County man is dead after crashing his snowmobile south of Santiago early Tuesday morning. 46-year-old Van Zoller of the Becker area died just after 12:30am. The sheriff says Zoller was traveling south along 165th Avenue when he hit a snowbank at the intersection of 47th Street Southeast and was thrown from the machine. The snowmobile then landed on him. He died at the scene.

--The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) has selected Kimberly Tjaden, MD, as the 2019 Family Physician of the Year. Tjaden is a family medicine physician at CentraCare Health's St. Cloud Medical Group South Campus. This award is presented annually to a Minnesota family physician who "personifies the highest ideals of family medicine: compassionate, comprehensive patient care and involvement in the community." The award has been given annually since 1981. Tjaden has been practicing family medicine in St. Cloud for 20 years. The Family Physician of the Year Award will be presented at the MAFP Spring Refresher on March 28th-29th. MAFP will also hand out awards for Family Medicine Educator of the Year, Resident of the Year and the Student Leadership Award.

--An Oakdale woman was injured Tuesday just after 1pm on Interstate 94 and Opportunity Drive in St. Cloud. Helen Ocheng, age 26 was west on I-94 lost control and a patch of slick road and hit the cable barrier, rolling the vehicle. She was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
