NEWS
--On Tuesday at 2:58pm the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an elderly man that was trapped in the water at a property located on 98th Street, approximately seven miles south of Hillman in Lakin Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 86-year old Jerome Micholski of Hillman was driving his side-by-side on his own property in a pasture area. The side-by-side slid into a creek that goes through the pasture and rolled. Micholski was pinned under the side-by-side but was able to keep his head above water until emergency personnel arrived. Micholski was transported to St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office credits the quick actions taken by the emergency responders. Because of their heroic actions, Micholski survived. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the MN DNR, MLMB First Response Team and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.

--The Little Falls Township would like to provide notice that both Inca Road and 133rd Street between 195th Avenue and 210th Avenue are now open. Also, anyone with information on who may have stolen all of the Little Falls and Bellevue Township barricades, please call the Morrison County Sheriff's Office at 320-632-9233.

--May is Vulnerable Adult Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in Morrison County, and the Community Adult Protection Team is hosting a new event that it hopes will help bring that number down.
The Art of Scamming: Knowledge is Power, will provide a resource fair and scam education to anyone who wishes to attend. The event is scheduled for 5pm-8pm on Tuesday, May 24th in the government center Board Room at the Morrison County Government Center. Morrison County Health and Human Services (HHS) Supervisor Sarah Pratt also serves as supervisor of the Community Adult Protection Team. The group consists of representatives from nursing homes, CHI St. Gabriel’s Hospital, the Family Medical Center, HHS, law enforcement and more who will be on hand to discuss scams and take questions, with free pizza for those attending this free event on Tuesday from 5-8pm again the government center boardroom.

--A number of contested races in north-central Minnesota emerged Tuesday as the first day of candidate filings for the 2022 election came to a close. Headed to the August 9th primary election are candidates for Minnesota House District 10B between Blake Paulson and John Ulrick both Republicans who filed Tuesday. Four local races for sheriff already feature two candidates, including those in Cass and Mille Lacs counties, where the incumbent sheriffs announced their retirements. In Cass, Chris Thompson will square off against Bryan Welk. In Mille Lacs, Patrick Broberg and Kyle A. Burton both seek the top law enforcement job. Also contested are the sheriff races in Crow Wing and Todd counties. Incumbent Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard faces a challenge from former Sheriff Eric Klang, while in Todd County, Mike Allen and Lonnie Marcyes filed for the seat. The races that have a primary on August 9th will continue to see filing for their seats now through May 31st. Cities and School Districts without primaries again will not have to file until starting August 2nd.

--A first grade teacher from Onamia and the 2022 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Sarah Lancaster is the first winner to come from such a small community in nearly 40 years and is the first ever winner of Asian/Pacific Islander heritage. Lancaster was among 11 finalists invited to a banquet May 1 in St. Paul to hear the announcement. The Onamia School District only has around 450 total students.

--St. Cloud Police are investigating a pedestrian-involved crash Tuesday morning. Officers were called to a parking lot at 1810 Minnesota Boulevard Southeast just before Noon. A car driven by a 27-year-old woman struck a 64-year-old man. Police say the man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was not hurt and stayed at the scene to cooperate with the investigation. The names of the two parties involved have not been released. Then a possible hit and run accident was reported Tuesday night around 10pm on St. Germain Street in St. Cloud. A 55-year-old man was laying the road with a motorcycle nearby. Paul Hansen of St. Cloud was taken to the hospital. Hansen told authorities he was struck by a turning vehicle but the entire investigation into the incident is ongoing.

--The next Coffee with the Cop event is next Thursday, May 26th from 8:30am-10am and will be at Little Falls City Hall. The event will also be a prescription drug take back event. During the time at City Hall you are welcome to bring your unused or unwanted prescription drugs to City Hall and law enforcement will take it for safe disposal. All community members are welcome to come and talk with local Law Enforcement and their community partners about current interests and concerns. Some topics for discussion will include substance abuse prevention, traffic safety, and drug enforcement strategies. This is a free event next Thursday at Little Falls City Hall.

--Lakin Township will host a clean up day for residents living outside the city limits but within the township Saturday from 8am-11am at the Lakin Town Hall. Questions can be directed at 320-980-3531.

--There will be a Ride with Heroes event Saturday starting at 4:30pm at the Morrison County Government Center with a bike ride with members of law enforcement, firefighters, medical personnel, first responders, military members and more from the government center to Lindbergh State Park. All are welcome to enjoy the bike ride.

VATICAN NEWS
--Pope Francis on Sunday declared 10 people saints of the Roman Catholic Church, including an anti-Nazi Dutch priest murdered in the Dachau concentration camp during World War II and a French hermit monk assassinated in Algeria. The list of the 10 were read Sunday in Vatican City and will now work the process of being reality.

HS SB= Congratulations to Brenna Dickmann and Kiara Olesch from the Pierz Softball team have been selected to play in the 33rd Fastpitch All-Star Series in Mankato on Sunday, June 13th.
TRACK= The Pierz Pioneers Girls Track Team have made it to the State True Team Track Meet Saturday in Stillwater. There will be a send-off at 3:30pm on Friday through Pierz to cheer them on to the state meet. All are encouraged to stand around outside homes and businesses as the buses go by on Friday afternoon with the team.
