NEWS
--Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed a lawsuit against Fleet Farm for allegedly selling guns to straw purchasers. Straw purchasers are people who illegally buy guns for other people who cannot legally buy guns themselves. The lawsuit claims Fleet Farm which has its original store in Brainerd/Baxter sold at least 37 guns to two straw purchasers over the course of 16 months. One of the guns bought at Fleet Farm was involved in a large shootout in a St. Paul bar in October of 2021 where one person died and 14 others were hurt. The lawsuit filed in Hennepin County Court alleges the store ignored red flags and warning signs that certain buyers were straw purchasers and sold the guns to the buyers anyway. Many feel this was a political statement from Ellison, a Democrat, who is facing re-election and a challenge from Republican candidate Jim Schultz, who has made violent crime his top issue for election on November 8th.

--Next Week is Fire Prevention Week, you may know what to do when a smoke alarm sounds. Or at least you think you do.
What you think you’d do and what you’d actually do when you’re panicked, choking, and unable to see could be quite different. You might head to your front door and right into deadly smoke instead of escaping out a window. You might forget about a rarely used door and find yourself trapped. That’s why it’s crucial to practice your plan twice a year with everyone in your family. Don’t assume you or your children know what to do in an emergency. A reminder from area fire departments to have a plan in place when fire occurs. Also check smoke detectors frequently to make sure they are working properly as smoke detectors save lives in the home. Little Falls Fire Chief Craig Seelen will be the guest Monday at 8:15am on AM960 KLTF to discuss fire prevention week and also discuss the hiring process currently underway to bring in more firefighters to the area.
