NEWS
--According to a facebook post on the company website Wednesday morning, Gosch's Grocery Store in Randall announced they will be closing. They remained open Wednesday. No further details are available at this time.

--Garrett Doucette, a firefighter with Upsala Fire Department, competed against four other fire departments in the Hormel’s Firehouse Chili Contest in New York City on Tuesday. Garrett Doucette’s Creamy Turkey Chili didn’t take home the $10,000 grand champion prize. As a runner-up, the Upsala Fire Department will receive more than 60 gallons of Hormel chili over the course of one year to be used for fundraisers and upcoming chili cookoffs. One event in the near horizon for Upsala Firefighters and EMS will be Sunday, October 7th from 11am-3pm. There they will hold an open house, EMS raffle at 2:30pm, meal for free will offering, bounce house, photo booth, coloring contest and an agility course for the kids will all be taking place at the event October 7th in Upsala.

--The Stearns County Sheriff's Office and the St. Cloud Police Department have been invited to apply for a Justice Assistance Grant, to share in the amount of $31,773. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office intends on utilizing the funds for replacement of outdated computer system and Forensic Tool Kit software, replacement computer system for use of the Cellebrite phone download software program, a Cellebrite camera, field investigation tools for the investigative unit (consisting of computer laptop cases, a laser range finder, large measuring wheel, heavy duty tripod and head kit, rechargeable scene light) and NIBRS compliance training. The St. Cloud Police Department will use the funds to purchase two Squad Car Rifle Bunkers, a 3⁄4 squad car cage to transport the UAV, a WRAP restraint device, Crime Prevention and Education materials and NIBIRS Compliance training. Members of the public are invited to submit comments on the grant to sheriffinfo@co.stearns.mn.us during the next 30 days.

--A Crow Wing County candidate forum with Crow Wing County Sheriff and Crow Wing County Commissioner Candidates will be held on Tuesday at 6:30pm at the Crow Wing County Land Services Building. Invited to participate are Crow Wing County Sheriff Candidates Scott Goddard and Pat Pickar and Commissioner Candidates Steve Barrows, Bill Brekken, Gary Johnson and Paul Thiede. Attendees will have an opportunity to submit written questions in this interactive forum.

--A 25-year old Aitkin man faces felony assault and stalking charges after allegedly assaulting a woman at a Brainerd residence. Colton James Tiedeman was charged last Thursday in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with two counts of felony second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of felony stalking, gross misdemeanor endangering a child, two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault and one court of misdemeanor fifth degree assault. According to the statement of probable cause court document, the reporting party stated that she was assaulted by Tiederman and that he showed up to home intoxicated and wielding a hatchet. Police found a lot of broken glass on the floor of the residence from a possible struggle. The woman stated she tried four times to call 911, but each time Tiedeman knocked the phone out of her hand.

--Kids Day a tradition in Minnesota for over 30 years after a proclamation by then Governor Rudy Perpich will happen again this Saturday from 9:00-11:30am at the Morrison County Fairgrounds. All events that day are free. Live animals, face painting, firefighters, tractor rides and much more on hand. Questions call 632-8806.

--A reminder from law enforcement and MN Dot that campaign signs are allowed only on private property when permitted by the property owner. Campaign signs are not allowed in the public right of way of any street. Some cities state that if any signs are in a city or county right of way they will be moved to private property. On state highway they are picked up and confiscated by Mn Dot if they are on state right of ways and in some cases the resident owner could face a fine.

--A 26-year old St. Cloud man is suspected of kicking in the door of the Benton County Historical Society early Sunday morning. Joseph Andrew Schreifels faces two felony counts of second degree attempted burglary and first degree criminal damage to property. According to a Benton County criminal complaint, about 2:10am Sunday, Sauk Rapids police responded to a burglar alarm at the historical society at 218 First Street North. They found a walk-in door to the garage area behind the main building had been kicked in and the door frame broken. They also found a "very fresh shoe print" in the center of the door. According to the complaint, they eventually located Schreifels in a nearby grocery store. He appeared to be extremely intoxicated. The complaint said an officer asked Schreifels if he could see the bottom of his shoes, to which Schreifels objected and began yelling. The officer told Schreifels he was under arrest for disorderly conduct and Scheifels continued to resist. Other officers responded and arrested him. The complaint said Schreifels' shoes "showed an exact match" to a shoe print on the historical society's door. Damages were noted as over $1,000.

TWINS= The Twins beat Detroit last night 11-4 to give manager Paul Molitor his 300th career win as manager. The Twins wrap up series with Detroit tonight at 6:30pm, then the Twins will have a day/night double header on Friday against the Chicago White Sox with games at 12:30 and 6:30pm on Q92 WYRQ.
