NEWS
--Monday morning, Deb Boelz, President of the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce announced live on KLTF their award winners for 2021 into this year for Large Business, Small Business and Volunteer of the Year. The Volunteer of the Year is Melissa Sanoski, a payroll specialist for Morrison County. She as volunteered her time with the Chamber, United Way of Morrison County, Habitat for Humanity, Linden Hill Christmas Event and Mary of Lourdes of Schools. Small Business of the Year Award had four nominations and is Touright Bicycle Shop, Dave and Susan Sperstad have been a major part of the community and became the one stop shop during the pandemic, helped with the Camp Ripley Veterans State Trail, Dam 2 Dam Bike Ride during the Dam Festival, Bridge to Bridge bike ride, developed the fit trail and brings the Easter Bunny to town during the yearly Santa Parade. Large Business of the Year is Horizon Health Services based in Pierz now with offices across central Minnesota along with Morrison County starting back in 1991. They continue to help caregiving and volunteering helping with independent housing for those in need, elderly, disabled and others to stay in their house or get the care they need. Deb Boelz mentioned that this year they are going to wait until May to have an outdoor type event to acknowledge the award winners so that friends, colleagues, loved ones and others can attend and enjoy all the time together. --A Burtrum woman was hurt Friday when she lost control and rolled her vehicle. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at around 11:30am on 30th Street about two miles southeast of Bowlus. The sheriff says 18-year old Rachel Hartsock was heading east on 30th Avenue and was behind another vehicle when she began to brake on a hill, lost control, entered the ditch, and rolled. Hartsock was treated at a hospital for unknown injuries.

--A 17-year old Hermantown girl suffered injuries in a rollover crash Sunday, February 13th on Highway 210 east of Brainerd. The Minnesota State Patrol received a report of the crash at 5:22pm at the intersection with White Pine Drive, near the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport in Oak Lawn Township. According to the state patrol, a 2015 Subaru Outback was eastbound on the highway when the driver, Samantha Claire Emme, lost control. The vehicle went into the right ditch and overturned. Emme was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd with non-life-threatening injuries. The road was covered in snow and ice at the time of the crash and Emme wore a seat belt.

--The man involved in an attempted traffic stop and pursuit involving an officer from the Eden Valley Police Department on Saturday died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to an autopsy by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office. The man has been identified as 34-year-old Stephen Poissant of Brainerd. According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Sunday, the officer involved, Evan Borscheid, did exchange gunfire with Poissant. The round from Borscheid's service weapon grazed Poissant's knee.
Evans, who has served in law enforcement for five years, was not injured. He is on standard administrative leave as the BCA continues its investigation. The release said. Following its investigation, the BCA will provide its findings without recommendation to the Meeker County Attorney's Office for review, according to the BCA release.

--The Wedding Event scheduled in January at Linden Hill has been rescheduled for March 13th at Linden Hill Retreat Center in Little Falls.

--Chuck Zwilling did confirm Monday that I.C.E. Fest 2022 was a huge success. Record amount of food served, which means way more attendees. (Double the amount of food served) Also they did officially reclaim the World Record for largest Ice carousel for now as at least 2 maybe more groups are going to try and beat it. Zwilling said the new record is 1,328 feet across, .8 miles around, 3 hours per rotation and 6 full rotations to get the world record back in Little Falls. Spinning for over 20 hours. Thanks to all the help and volunteers making this the biggest event yet.

--One person was hurt in a semi rollover near Melrose. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says around 3am Friday morning, deputies responded to a call of an overturned semi-truck on County Road 65 in Oak Township. Deputies arrived to find the driver, 73-year-old Frederick Ettel of Freeport, trapped inside the cab. He was removed and taken to Melrose Hospital with unknown injuries. Authorities say the truck was hauling about 40,000 pounds of milk at the time of the crash and weather conditions are believed to be a factor.

--An unidentified person was found dead Sunday in a mobile home fire on Highway 2 in northern Cass County. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire, reported at 12:23am in Unorganized Township, near Bena. According to the report from the sheriff’s office, responders arrived on scene and found a mobile home engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, a search of the residence was conducted and an individual was found deceased. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

OLY= as of early this morning, the United States have 17 total medals at the winter games, the Women's Hockey team is in the gold medal game against Canada tomorrow night, both men's and women's curling continue this week. Norway leads the medal count with the winter games continuing through the weekend in China.
FREE THROW= Here are the winners from Sunday's District 40 competition held in Pierz. Tyler Kimman (Pierz), Mataya Pohlkamp (Pierz), Madelyn Kessler (Pierz), Macy Sadlovsky (Pierz), Amber Boser (Pierz), Logan Kimman (Pierz), Preston Saehr (Pierz), Emily Ripplinger (Upsala), Brady Pohlkamp (Pierz), Drew Sadlovsky (Pierz) and Isabelle Solinger (Pierz). The winners advance to the Region 7 competition held in Aitkin in March.
