NEWS
--There will be an informational meeting tonight at 5:15pm at Little Falls City Hall in the Council Chambers regarding the possibility of a local option sales tax. The city of Little Falls is considering a ½ % local option sales tax. The meeting tonight is to gather public input on possible uses for this type of tax if implemented. The council will decide if they want to put this optional tax in the upcoming election. This tax will not go into affect unless the voters approve it in an election. This type of tax would not include clothing or groceries. Areas such as Brainerd, Baxter, and St. Cloud already have this type of tax in place.

--Around 12:30pm Saturday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man that was run over by a vehicle at a business east of Little Falls. 44-year old Robert Doege of Little Falls, was working underneath his vehicle. The vehicle was parked on an incline and shifted into neutral, rolling over Doege. Doege was transported to St Gabriel’s Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance where his condition is unknown.

--Around 9:50pm Saturday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an ATV accident with injuries on 300th Avenue, near 113th Street, approximately 5 miles northeast of Buckman, in Pierz Township. The driver of the ATV, 20-year old Derek Marshik of Pierz was traveling south on 300th Ave and hit a deer with his ATV which caused him to be thrown from the ATV. Marshik was airlifted by helicopter to St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries.

--The Morrison County Department of Public Works reminds political campaigners that Minnesota Statute 160.2715(a)(9) prohibits placement of signs on Highway Right-of-Way. This long-standing law includes political campaign signs. Political campaigners are asked to place their signs on the back slopes where the appropriate permission has been given by the landowner.

--Brainerd police are reminding homeowners and cabin dwellers to lock their doors and windows after a number of reports of a possible prowler lurking around the lakes area. From June 29th through July 5th authorities received calls of someone late at night between 11:00pm and 2:00am knocking on doors, voices coming from outside the homes or cabins and banging of trash cans or items outside on patios and porches. Authorities stated that they have received no word of anyone breaking in or stealing items at this time but to be safe locked up homes and valuables while the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who notices suspicious activity is asked to call police.

--A Kimball man was hurt in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 15. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says it happened at about 9am Sunday at the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 146 in Main Prairie Township near Kimball. Deputies say 55-year-old David Reischel was driving his Suburban north when he drifted across the center line and into the ditch. The vehicle hit the ditch, continued over the road and struck a telephone junction box. It rolled over until it stopped on its side. Reischel was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

--Linden Hill Conference and Retreat Center is hosting their annual Garden Walk event today from 3-8pm in Little Falls. The Garden and Grounds Committee has arranged four garden sites for touring, all in Little Falls, in addition to the 40 vintage gardens throughout the Linden Hill Estate. --The Minnesota State Patrol reported a deadly stretch of days on Minnesota roadways over the 4th of July and through last weekend. At least 7 people died on Minnesota roads from July 3rd through the 7th including over three dozen accidents alone on Friday and Saturday in the state. The State Patrol reminds motorists that their click or ticket and safe and sober campaigns will continue until the end of July.

--The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a stolen farm implement. On Saturday, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Arnold’s of St. Cloud (in Sauk Rapids) for a theft complaint. Investigating deputies learned that sometime between last Tuesday and Saturday someone had stolen a 2012 New Holland brand manure spreader from the business. The implement is a red model 2080 with two different colored wheels. Anyone with information about this crime or the suspects is asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office or Tri-County Crime Stoppers.

--Crow Wing County Boat and Water Division recovered the body Monday of a missing St. Paul man on Adney Lake near Crosslake. Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reported that the victim was recovered from the lake around 1:45pm on the northwest side of it. The victim was found near the vicinity where he left the pontoon and went under water Sunday afternoon and never resurfaced. Authorities stated the victim was a cabin owner in the area but would release the name until family members were notified.

--A husband and wife were killed in a crash outside of Hawick west of Paynesville in Roseville Township. Saturday morning around 11:20am 44-year old James Young and 42-year old Michelle Young both of St. Cloud were on Highway 23 when a car made a left turn and struck three motorcycles. Both the Young's were hit by the car and died. Also injured in the accident was 61-year old James Leon Young of Sauk Rapids and 38-year old Melissa Mayo of Sauk Rapids who were taken to St. Cloud Hospital. Mayo had serious injuries while James Young had non-life threatening injuries. Neither the car's driver 21-year old Christina Knutson of Bricelyn or her passenger were injured in the fatal accident.

--One person was injured at the Highway 10 and 24 intersection in Clear Lake south of St. Cloud Sunday around 6:15pm. 71-year-old Sharon Andrews of St. Cloud was on Highway 10 and had the green light when a motorcycle turned through the red and struck her vehicle. She was not hurt. The motorcyclist, 60-year old Joel Zachman of Clear Lake was treated at St. Cloud Hospital for injuries.
