NEWS
--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office in the past week reported suspicious activity at a Hillman service station, shots fired near 153rd Street in Little Falls, theft reports from Cushing and Little Falls and made three domestic abuse arrests and two arrests for DWI.

--The 13-year old boy who drowned on Friday night at Armour No. 2 Mine Pit Lake in Crosby has been identified. The body of 13-year old, Murdoch Edward Crust of Minneapolis was recovered around noon on Saturday after a search for his body Friday was called off due to darkness. Crust was staying with family, including relatives local to the Brainerd lakes area, at a cabin at True North Base Camp.

--A semi driver who caused a crash that killed a 16-year old boy has been found guilty of criminal charges in Otter Tail County. A jury Thursday found 36-year old Jason Vadner, of Wheaton, guilty of criminal vehicular homicide and careless driving for a head on crash that killed Jacob Quam in April. The teen was on his way to Henning High School when Vadner crossed the center line and hit the boy's car. The State Patrol said Vadner had been driving too fast on a foggy morning. The jury deliberated two hours before reaching the verdict. Sentencing scheduled for August 24th.

--Shots were fired at a dump truck last week in Sauk Centre and authorities are searching for a van that might have been involved. The incident happened at about 1:10pm Monday in the 42000 block of County Road 17. Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson says a large Mack dump truck was heading south on the county road when the driver's windshield was shot at with numerous BB's from a shotgun round. None of the BB's went through the window completely. The driver of the dump truck was not hurt. He told authorities he saw a maroon van pass him on the northbound side of the road, after the incident. Deputies are now searching for the maroon van. Anyone with information of the van or the incident should call (320) 251-4240. Ask to speak to Investigator Sorensen.

--Access to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd will be undergoing construction though August 8th. For emergency care during this period, you are asked to use the main doors of the facility. Hours will not change at the clinic or the hospital during the construction, but the public will find some entrances, hallways and other parts of the hospital being worked on in the next three weeks.

--An Alexandria man is in the Stearns County Jail after a traffic stop last week uncovered over a pound of methamphetamine in his car. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says a deputy on patrol on I-94 in Sauk Centre Township last Wednesday found an SUV with a taillight out. While talking to the driver, 55-year old Jeffrey Pennig, the deputy smelled marijuana and saw "a joint sitting in plain view". A police dog was brought in and helped in a search of the vehicle. During the search, authorities found a plastic baggie with just over 10 grams of meth in the air vent. They also found a pound of meth in a backpack along with scales. The search also turned up a small baggie of marijuana and $850. Pennig was booked on 1st degree drug possession and sales.

--The St. Cloud Fire Department was kept busy in recent days. They had to pull out a car that crashed into a home. On Saturday Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire that did $4,500 in damages on University Drive. They also extinguished a house fire when a fallen tree broke wires that started a fire on the roof of a home. No one was hurt in any of these incidents.

--A St. Cloud man has pleaded guilty to felony domestic assault after beating and choking a woman over the Memorial Day weekend. Police were called to the Walmart store in Sauk Centre on Memorial Day for a domestic assault report. According to the criminal complaint filed in Stearns County District Court, a woman had notified a friend that she was hiding in the bathroom after being repeatedly beaten and choked at a home in Spring Hill. The woman told police an argument with 32-year old Scott Schaefer-Bonovsky started Friday, May 25th and continued into th Saturday morning. When the argument escalated, Schaefer-Bonovsky said he should "rock her" to get the respect he deserved, then punched her on both sides of her head, slapped her across the face and began choking her. When Schaefer-Bonovsky released his grip, the woman said he punched her in the eye. Records show after the assault Schaefer-Bonovsky was apologetic and said he didn't remember most of the assault. On Monday, May 28th, the woman woke up to find Schaefer-Bonovsky was mad because he had checked her phone and saw she had cleared her call history. He is accused of choking her again. Later, the woman was able to convince Schaefer-Bonovsky to go with her to Walmart. While at the store, she went into the bathroom and texted a friend to call the police. Schaefer-Bonovsky has felony convictions for felony domestic assault and violation of a no contact order from Benton County in 2012. He will be sentenced on the latest charge August 24th.

--A South Haven man was hurt in a crash early Monday morning. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened just after 1:00am on Highway 55, east of Highway 15 in Kimball. 55-year old, Todd Sanderson was heading east when his car went off the road and rolled. Sanderson was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
