NEWS
--The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for ozone pollution. The Air Quality Index is expected to reach the Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category starting at 12pm today and lasting until 9pm Thursday night over all of north central, central and southern Minnesota. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease(including asthma), heart disease, children and older adults, and people who are active outdoors, may experience health effects. Unlike previous air quality alerts from smoke from wildfires this his ground-level ozone which is expected to be high during the afternoon hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday across central and southern Minnesota. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and low humidity will create an environment favorable for two types of pollutants(Volatile Organic Compounds and Nitrogen Oxides) to react in the air to produce ground-level ozone. These pollutants will be transported by southerly winds from the Chicago area, northeast Iowa, and southeast Minnesota. Ozone will be highest during the afternoon and early evening hours when sunshine is most abundant, and temperatures are highest. Ozone will be low in the morning, late evening, and overnight.

--A Randall woman was injured Saturday around 2:50pm on Highway 10 and Parkview Drive in Randall. 32-year-old Jamison Henderson of Swanville was Eastbound on Parkview Drive and crossed Highway 10 collided with a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Timothy Wheeler of Illinois. Wheeler and his two teenage passengers were not hurt. One of Henderson's passengers 29-year-old Haley Lueckel of Randall was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. A 5-year-old also in that vehicle did not have any injuries from the accident.

--At least one person was killed in a two-vehicle accident Sunday around 11:45am on Highway 10 in Clear Lake between Sherburne and Stearns County. The vehicles collided at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 24 in Clear Lake. A 77-year-old from Foreston, and a couple from Mound were involved in the accident. No other details have been released as this time.

--Another fatal accident happened at 10:48am Sunday on 145th Avenue Northeast in Roseville Township of Kandiyohi County. Two vehicles collided head on when a southbound vehicle caught a wet patch of road and slid into the northbound vehicle. At least one person was killed. No other information was released at this time.

--A St. Francis man was critically injured in an accident in Anoka County Saturday night just after 7pm. 41-year-old Jeremy Rawlings was thrown from the cycle after taking a turn too fast. Reports stated he sustained a head injury and was taken to Mercy Hospital.

--A 43-year-old Sauk Rapids man was injured in a motorcycle accident on Friday at 6:40pm on Highway 10 at Clear Lake. The cycle left the road and struck the ditch. Patrick Stang was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital with reported non life threatening injuries.

--Another motorcyclist was hurt around 3:50pm Friday on Interstate 94 near Monticello in Wright County. 36-year-old Daniel Szklarski of Bismarck, North Dakota was thrown from the cycle after leaving the and road and striking the ditch. He was taken to Monticello hospital for treatment of his injuries.

--A reminder that the Legislative Update is today at 8:30am at Little Falls City Hall to hear from State Representatives and Senator.

--A reminder that the Little Falls City Council meets tonight at 7:30pm due to the holiday on Monday with city offices being closed.

--A reminder was sent out by the Little Falls Police Department recently about an uptick in thefts from vehicles and storage buildings as the summer days heat up. With many events either last weekend or this week with the Morrison County Fair, Church Bazaars and other functions plus more people enjoying the summer days, please remember to leave items left out of sight in vehicles, lock your vehicles when left unattended and lock up houses and outbuildings when not at home or if you even inside the home and don't have a clear look at the building. Thieves look for the quick grab if they can from vehicles left open or doors to get into. Please enjoy the events but remember to keep safety first when out and about this summer.

--Firefighters responded to a wildfire Saturday along the Pine River in Crow Wing County. The Mission Fire Department responded to the fire, reported at 12:46pm as smoke and flames from the area. According to Fire Chief Eric Makowski, firefighters had a difficult time locating and extinguishing the fire due to the difficult terrain in the heavily wooded area. Makowski said approximately 5 acres burned and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

–Today, the 133rd Airlift Wing is to host a tour of C-130 and F-16 aircraft to expose middle and high students to aviation career opportunities in the military. “Throughout my career, I have been inspired by other pilots, such as my World War II veteran grandfather who flew for the 133rd,” said Air Force Maj. John Sjoblom, a C-130 pilot at the 133rd Airlift Wing. “I have worked this event for many years and it’s exciting to see the returning campers and see how their interest in aviation has grown.” Approximately 25 students will participate in the Organization of Black Aerospace Professional’s (OBAP) Aviation Career Education (ACE) five-day academy, with one of the afternoons spent at the 133rd. The academy visit has occurred more than ten times at the 133rd and has grown over the years. This will be the first time the Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing has provided a fighter jet for the event. The participants will have lunch at the base and hear about various careers in aviation before touring the aircraft. The event is today in St. Paul at the 133rd Airlift Wing for the tours to start at 9am and a ceremony to follow around 12:15pm today.

--One person was injured in a two vehicle accident Monday on Highway 55 in Paynesville. 62-year-old Gregory Johnson of Bloomington collided with 56-year-old Jeffrey Teicher of Eden Valley on the Highway. Teicher was treated for his injuries at an area hospital. Johnson's passenger and Teicher's 19 year old passenger were not injured in the accident that happened around 11:35am.

--Foley Fun Days continues today and tomorrow. A live band at the downtown stage starts at 4pm and a Hot Rod Show is at St. John's Catholic Church. The Kiddie Parade starts at 6pm with Family Fun Night to follow. Wednesday Foley Fun Days wrap up with bingo at city hall, the grand parade is at 6pm followed by the band Stifle on the downtown stage. All happening in Foley this week.
