NEWS
--The woman who was found dead Sunday in Crow Wing County near the intersection of Legend Lane and Killian Road near Ft. Ripley has been identified as 49-year-old Angela Marie McClelland of Fort Ripley. Crow Wing County Sheriff Eric Klang on Monday stated that investigators believed McClelland died after being struck by a vehicle. Their investigation into the alleged hit and run case continues.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday night at approximately 8:54pm, they received a report of a golf cart accident on Scandia Forest Trail, approximately six miles north of Cushing in Scandia Valley Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 15-year-old juvenile female from Savage was driving a golf cart on Scandia Forest Trail. The juvenile female turned too sharp and lost control of the golf cart causing it to roll and injure both occupants. The 15-year-old driver was transported to Staples Hospital by private vehicle with unknown injuries. The passenger, a 14-year-old juvenile female from Chanhassen was transported to Staples Hospital for her injuries.

--A Verndale man was injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident near Cushing in Morrison County. At 1:26pm, 66-year-old Lambert Butler of Verndale was eastbound on Highway 10 in Cushing Township when a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Jake Peck of St. Cloud attempted to pass the Butler vehicle clipping the rear end and causing the Butler vehicle to roll over. Butler was ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with serious injuries. His passenger 25-year-old Ethan Orlando of Verndale, Peck and his two children passengers, ages 9 and 6 were not injured in the accident.

--A three-year-old girl from Rice who was seriously injured in a crash on June 1st has died. According to the Caring Bridge page for Nevaeh Ripka posted on Saturday that she had died. According to the Minnesota State Patrol’s incident report, 32-year-old Alexander John Ripka of Rice was killed when a driver going south in the northbound lanes hit him head-on around 2:25am that morning. The impact caused his Pontiac Vibe to spin out and hit a Mercedes Sprinter Van driven by 35-year-old Ibrahim Theophile of Buffalo, New York. Crash investigators say Ripka was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected. He died at the scene. Nevaeh was seriously injured and airlifted to Gillette Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The wrong way driver, 28-year-old William Alexander Flores-Zamora, had to be extricated from his car and died a short time later. The van driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment. Nevaeh was buckled into her car seat on her way to her grandparent’s house. The web page says she underwent emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain. Nevaeh had numerous surgeries and was on life support. She died on Saturday.

--Morrison County Public Works announced they will be installing centerline culvert on County Road 269 (335th Avenue) this week, continue to mow roadside ditches, patch roads and painting stop ahead symbols this week. Along with construction still going on on County Road 234/Hawthorne Road with remains closed, CSAH 26 and CSAH 5 closed this week with the 234 project. CSAH 26 east of Royalton remained close for box culvert installation, CSAH 1 north of Randall closed for the same work. Construction traffic on CR 253, 254 and 255 expect delays and helping with city and state crews on the Little Falls 4th Street Project which will continue through the summer.
Please use caution in construction zones and obey signs and flaggers.

--More time was requested in the case against the man accused of murder and stuffing a body in a storage tote in Mille Lacs County. Bradley Allen Weyaus was charged March 23 with second-degree murder, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, interference with a dead body or scene of death-concealing a body and evidence in connection with the death of Rodney Pendagayosh, whose body was found in a storage tote along the shores of Mille Lacs Lake. Weyaus appeared last Tuesday in Mille Lacs County District Court. According to Mille Lacs County Attorney Erica Madore, discovery in the case is ongoing and a new hearing was scheduled for August 8th. Weyaus remains in custody in the Mille Lacs County Jail.

--St. Cloud Police are reporting that arson is being investigated where a car was lit on fire on the 1100 block of 9th Avenue South in the early morning hours last Friday. Another nearby vehicle also caught on fire and a building suffered some damage. The St. Cloud Police Department also are reporting a theft from vehicle on the 1100 block of Parkwood Loop where items were taken. --An annual exercise testing the response of first responders, along with federal, state, and local agencies to a simulated emergency at the Monticello Nuclear Plant is scheduled for today. There will be a variety of field exercises at the facility, which straddles the border between Sherburne and Wright Counties. The field exercises are required by the State of Minnesota each year. They alternate between Monticello and Prairie Island. The drills have been conducted since 1981. Included in the drills are representatives from Xcel Energy, 11 state departments, the City of Monticello, Sherburne and Wright Counties, and the United State Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

--Officials are warning consumers about certain frozen oysters after they were linked to multiple cases of norovirus in Minnesota. On Friday, the Minnesota Department of Health announced an alert from the Food and Drug Administration about frozen oysters harvested in South Korea. The alert specifically mentions oysters harvested between February 10th and February 24th of last year and April 6 and April 21 of last year. These frozen oysters can have a shelf life of up to two years and were sold in both grocery stores and restaurants in Minnesota. At least five cases in Minnesota were linked to these oysters served at a restaurant. The Department of Health is asking if you have oysters in the freezers from those dates, discard them.
