NEWS
--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Saturday night around 7:25pm Mille Lacs Tribal Police were in pursuit of a vehicle near the eastern border of Morrison County. The vehicle entered Morrison County and deputies joined Mille Lacs County Tribal Police in the pursuit, eventually taking the pursuit over. One of the Morrison County deputies performed a pit maneuver on the vehicle and the vehicle came to a stop on 225th Avenue west of Pierz. The driver, 31-year old Carrie Ann Graves from Onamia was arrested at the scene. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office will be forwarding reports to the Morrison County Attorney’s Office for review of charges to include fleeing in a motor vehicle.

--A Little Falls man and woman were injured in a one vehicle motorcycle crash Saturday in Garrison Township. 54-year old John Robert Walter was driving his motorcycle northbound on Highway 169 south of Garrison just after noon Saturday, when he swerved to avoid rear-ending stopped traffic and went off the road to the right. Both Walter and his passenger, 49-year old Kimberly Ann Walter were ejected from the motorcycle and transported to the Crosby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets.

--One person was airlifted via Life Link helicopter after a two vehicle crash about 6:30pm Friday in Daggett Brook Township south of Brainerd just north of the Morrison/Crow Wing County line. A medical emergency may have been the cause of the crash, where two vehicles traveling in opposite directions just east of the intersection of County Highway 2 and County Highway 45 sideswiped one another. Authorities had to airlift one person to the hospital, who was not identified. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

--Around 160 central Minnesota National Guard members were officially welcomed home on Saturday afternoon. The 851st Vertical Engineer Company held a formal homecoming and reintegration event at River’s Edge Convention Center. It was the first time the unit had been back together since March when they returned from a nine month deployment. During their deployment, the soldiers completed a variety of construction projects in Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Afghanistan. The company will be back together again in about a month for another, similar event.

--Three people from Sauk Centre were hurt in a two vehicle crash in Stearns County on Saturday. The incident happened shortly after noon at County Road 17 and 385th Avenue. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says a car driven by 19-year old driver Elizabeth Amelung was going east on County Road 17 then turned left onto 385th Avenue and was hit by a compact car going west on County Road 17. The compact car was driven by 65-year old Robert Hens. Hens, Amelung, and her brother, 13-year old Issac Amelung who was a passenger in the car, were taken to Sauk Centre Hospital with non serious injuries.

--Longtime Minnesota politician and former Minneapolis mayor Don Fraser passed away over the weekend at age 95. Fraser was first elected to the Minnesota state Senate in 1954 before serving in the U.S. House from 1963-1979, and was Mayor of Minneapolis from 1980-1993, the longest serving mayor in the city's history.

--The man who pleaded guilty to throwing a 5-year-old boy off a third-story balcony at the Mall of America was sentenced to 19 years in prison Monday. Emmanuel Aranda stood in court listening to victim impact statements being read by a prosecutor. Of that 19-year sentence, Minnesota law mandates that he serve 12 of them, with 53 days off for time served. The 5 year remains hospitalized but continues to show signs if improvement but a long road ahead.

--Today the Morrison County Department of Public Works will be conducting a culvert replacement on County State Aid Highway 1 (Dove Road) that will require a detour of traffic. CSAH 1 (Dove Road) will be closed between State Highway 27 and County Road 217 (200th Street) traffic will be detoured while the project is being conducted. South bound traffic will be directed west on County Road 217 and then south on CSAH 11 (Bison Road) then east on Highway 27 back to CSAH 1 (Dove Road). The project is estimated to take one day. --Morrison County Public Works Maintenance Crews will continue crack sealing on County Road 273 this week. Please use caution and drive appropriately in these work zones. Public Works staff will also continue to blade and shape gravel roads around the county. Crews will be replacing deteriorated entrance culverts on CSAH 1 and County Road 234. Patching of potholes on CSAH 76, 1, 21, and County Roads 204 and 205 will be conducted during the week. Public Works contractor will be spray patching various roads around the county in the months of June and July. This work will begin on County Road 225. Please use caution around these crews and abide by the signing and flaggers in these work zones.

--Two men were arrested in Sherburne County after authorities say they fled from an attempted traffic stop and crashed into a squad car. Investigators stated that 47-year-old Eric Rossiter Johnson of Annandale was driving a truck pulling a trailer near the area of County Road 11 and County Road 16. They tried to stop the vehicle but it kept driving running a stop sign as it headed toward Becker. The chase continued onto Central Avenue reaching speeds of 45 to 50 miles an hour. Investigators say they also saw items being thrown from the vehicle. After an 8 mile chase the truck was stopped and Johnson and his passenger, not released, were arrested.
